WWII Letter. 20th Armored Division. Killed in Action 1945. Awarded Bronze Star.
This is an interesting original WWII letter. Written in July 1944 by a soldier who was killed in action in April 1945 while serving in the 27th Tank Battalion, 20th Armored Division. This letter was written by Master Sergeant Frank Rogowin, who died of wounds in Germany on the 27th of April, 1945. When he wrote this letter Sergeant Rogowin was serving in the 14th Armored Division. Sergeant Rogowin was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star. For valor during the action in which he was killed. His Bronze Star and Purple Heart are both confirmed in the published"Index to the General Orders of the 20th Armored Division. According to published accounts. Just before he was mortally wounded by a mine Sergeant Rogowin jumped onto the back of a disabled tank and, with rifle fire, covered the escape of several tank crewmen who were sheltering in ... morea ditch. It was for this action that he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star) Moments later his jeep struck a mine. He died of his wounds a few days later. There is interesting and emotional content in this scarce original letter. Which was written by Sergeant Rogowin a short time before he and his division sailed for Europe. The letter was written in July 1944. It is contained in it's original cover. This letter was written in 1944 while Sergeant Rogowin was at Camp Campbell. Kentucky, serving in the 48th Tank Battalion, 14th Armored Division. The 14th Armored Division embarked for service in the European Theatre of Operations in early October, 1944. After arrival in Europe Sergeant Rogowin was transferred to B Company, 27th Tank Battalion, in which he was serving at the time of his death in April, 1945. There is a published narrative describing the circumstances of Sergeant Rogowin's death. He was mortally wounded in an engagement near the German town of Berg in late April. 1945. When several tanks came under fire and were disabled their crews took shelter in a ditch. Sergeant Rogowin left the jeep he was driving, jumped onto the back of a disabled tank, and provid

WWII Letters. 20th Armored Division, Killed in Action, Germany. Won Bronze Star.
This is an interesting and emotional grouping of three original WWII letters. Written in July and August 1944 by an American sergeant who was killed in action in Germany in April 1945. This sergeant was killed while serving in the 27th Tank Battalion, 20th Armored Division. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, for the action in which he was killed. These three letters were written in 1944 by Master Sergeant Frank Rogowin. Who died of wounds in Germany on the 27th of April, 1945. When he wrote these letters Sergeant Rogowin was serving in the 14th Armored Division. He was reassigned to the 20th Armored Division when he arrived overseas, shortly after writing these letters. There is interesting and emotional content. One letter was written in July 1944. Two in August. There is some very good content about his duties ... moreand routines, as well as highly emotional( and very sad) content about Sergeant Rogowin's newly born child. Sergeant Rogowin was very proud and excited to be a new father. The letters are contained in their original covers. They were written shortly before Sergeant Rogowin went overseas. Interesting original WWII letters. Written by a sergeant who was killed in action in the late stages of the war against Germany. This Lot includes Jacket. Trousers, Medals and Insignia. This Group came in together and will need some research as this is a PH and SS winner. The Jackets Tag has Coat, Man’s, Wool Serge, AG-44, DSA-100-67-C-4803 100% Wool Superior Coat Co. The Collar tag has 37R. The sleeves both have SP-5 Chevrons. The right sleeve has 3rd Armored Patch with Spearhead Tab. The right sleeve has 1st Logistical Command Patch. There is a single service stripe on the left sleeve just above the cuff. The shoulders both have 122nd Ordinance Battalion DI Crest Insignia. These are both Clutch Backs. The Collar has Ordinance Enlisted Men’s Insignia. These are both Clutch backs. The Ribbon Bars ... moreare 2 separate pieces with 1 more on top. These are all Clutch back. There is a Shooting Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar. These are both marked Sterling. This has an Army Meritorious Unit Commendation over the right pocket. This has Clutch backs. The 2 top pockets have the little mini snaps for holding down the flaps. This Jacket measures to size about 17 ½ inches armpit to armpit. The shoulder seam to shoulder seam is about 17 ½ inches. The shoulder seam to end of sleeve is about 24 ½ inches. This has a couple small moth nips but should display nicely. This has all the Buttons. This has a pairs of Trousers Matching with it. These are Wool Serge, AG-44, DSA-100-68-C-40937, Jaco Pants Company. These are waist size 31 ½ Inches and leg inseam is 32 inches. United States World War I Army Armored Tank Enlisted Mans Bronze Collar Device Maker Marked N. S. Meyer. The dimensions are 1" in diameter. This collar device is of a bronze construction. It features two dragons on either side in the center with a tank above and a set of oak leaf below on a pebbled background with a circled border. The reverse shows the maker mark of"N. S. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, for valor in the engagement in which he was killed. This sergeant died in hospital a couple of days after he was wounded. This letter was written by Master Sergeant Frank Rogowin. Who was killed in action while serving in B Company, 27th Tank Battalion, 20th Armored Division. The letter comes with an original unnumbered Armored Force patch, which came with the letter and presumably was worn by Sergeant Rogowin. He probably mailed it home when he was issued his numbered division patch) The letter is 2 pages ... morelong and interesting. It was written by Sergeant Rogowin to his wife. It comes in it's original cover. This letter was written by Master Sergeant Frank Rogowin. Who died of wounds in Germany on the 27th of April, 1945 while serving in the 27th Tank Battalion, 20th Armored Division. When he wrote this letter Sergeant Rogowin was serving in the 14th Armored Division. He was reassigned to the 20th Armored Division when he arrived overseas. In late April 1945. During the advance to Berg, Germany, an American tank was hit and caught fire. Members of the crew abandoned the tank and sought cover in a ditch, where they were pinned down by fire from a German pillbox. Sergeant Rogowin was following in the company headquarters communications jeep. He jumped up onto the rear of a tank and, providing covering fire with his carbine, enabled the men sheltering in the ditch to escape to better cover. Sergeant Rogowin then returned to his jeep. While he was attempting to drive around the disabled tanks in the road his jeep struck a mine. Sergeant Rogowin died of his wounds a few days later.
