Beautiful Vintage Weller Pottery 9" Baldin Apple Vase Circa 1915- 1920(Arts and Craft Period) From the title you know the theme of the vase is apples ... moreand in addition is a meandering branch and leaves all done in earth tones of shades of brown. Shades of green, soft yellow and shades of plum. Vase is 9" high x 2-1/2" across at bottom, but 3-3/4" across at widest point, the opening at top is 2-18" and the rim is 1/8" thick. Vase has 3 dimensional design for the branch. leaves and apples. Vase is vintage, but in excellent condition with no chips, scratches, or marks. This vase is a Weller. But is not signed, which is not unheard of for Weller, but does not mean it is not authentic. While some Weller piece are unmarked, it appears in this guide due to the distinct blue coloring of the base as shown here. Many Weller pieces with Matte Green(as this piece is) coloring have this distinctive look to the base. Knowing this can help buyers and sellers identify unsigned pieces. Founded in 1872 by Samuel Weller. Weller Pottery opened its doors in Fultonham, Ohio where high quality clay for pottery production was plentiful. Similarly to Roseville, the company began making utility wares like jars and jugs. The company moved its operation to Zanesville, Ohio in 1889 and eventually added decorative art pottery lines to its inventory to compete with other potters such as Rookwood. During the 1920s. A number of hand-decorated lines were discontinued as the company explored mass produced pottery for the commercial market. Even so, some lines, including Hudson, continued on throughout the decade. However, the company’s creativity seems to have waned after Samuel Weller’s death in 1925 when the company was inherited by his nephew, and some of its lines began to closely mimic the wares of competitors at the time. Nevertheless. Weller produced many lines during the early 1930s that collectors seek today including Blue Drapery, Warwick, Chase, Geode, and Stellar, among others. After 1935, Weller completely

Rare is the piece where the bottom is nearly as cool as the top. But the underside of this Fulper bowl has an amazing matte blue glaze. The top ain't ... moretoo shabby either. Measuring just over 2" tall and 10" wide, it is fully marked. There is a repaired flake to the underside of the rim(see photos) This affected a tiny portion of the edge of the rim. Some minor crazing has developed on the bottom of the interior and there is a bit of wear to the glaze. The way the blue flows into the white and then back again makes this hard to see but it is duly noted. Dating to the 1920's, it's a nice period Arts and Crafts piece. WELLER POTTERY, WOODCRAFT, LARGE SQUIRREL BOWL, FOOTED, VERY NICE~~
For Auction is a Wonderful piece of Art Pottery Planter made by The Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville. Ohio. The Pattern is the ever so Popular"Woodcraft" pattern and the Design is that of a Squirrel sitting on a branch eating a Nut. Some Weller collectors also clarify this as Muskota because of the Animals and Glaze Colors. The Shape is Considered a Planter or footed Bowl. The Planter or Bowl stands 3 3/4" Tall and is 7 5/8" in diameter at its widest point. The Planter Depicts 4 Separate Panels of a Squirrel Sitting on a Branch getting ready to eat an Acorn in a Forest scene. There is wonderful Green Foliage in the background of each Panel as well as deep Brown Branches forming the Outline or Cameo for each Squirrel including the Branch he is sitting on. The Planter has 4 Raised Lobed Feet giving this piece that added ... moreheight. This pattern is a Nature Lovers delight. The Colors are Good and the Detail just splendid as it displays a very Naturalistic View. The Planter is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no Cracks. Or Chips. There is a very tiny Glaze Fleck along the lower bottom branch between 2 feet on the bottom. This is pictured. The piece is unsigned as is the case with most of these Squirrel Planters. They probably had a paper or foil label at one time. Woodcraft is a very Popular Line to collect and this Particular Planter is one of the most desirable to own. There were two sizes to this Bowl. This is the larger Size. Those of you who collect Weller Pottery especially the Woodcraft Line and want an very nice example this is the piece to purchase. It is very clean an it appears that this Bowl sat on a Shelf and was not used as the condition both inside and out is wonderful! Sometimes this pattern is confused with Flemish as Weller Categorized them as such. Woodcraft is from Weller Pottery's middle period. Circa 1920-1933. WELLER POTTERY, COPPERTONE LARGE FROG, OUTSTANDING COPPER~~~
For Auction is a great piece of Art Pottery made by The Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville. Ohio. I have a Large Frog Figurine done in the highly Collected Coppertone Glaze. The Frog is a larger one as it stands 3 7/8" tall, 4 3/8" length and 3 1/2" wide or deep. The Frog displays a wonderful outstanding glaze that Consists of a Matte Forest Green with long Amoeba Shaped Copper Mottles. The Belly of the Frog has a very natural raw leather glaze color. The Detail in the eyes and mouth is just wonderful. Coppertone Frogs eyes are made of glass and are well executed. This Frog appears to be ready to suck in that fly with his tongue. It also appears that he has has a smile on his face. I like frogs and I personally think he is a Handsome one. This Coppertone Frog is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks. ... moreChips, nicks or dings. The Frog is not signed on the bottom and more than likely had a paper label. There is the finishers number"12" incised into the clay bottom. I have owned so many Coppertone pieces in my life and I would have to say that 95% of all of them had the number 12 hand written on the bottom. This leads me to believe that this finisher stayed with Weller for at least 15 years or more. This is one of the Larger of the Coppertone Frogs that Weller made. I will also have to say this is one of the finest Coppertone Glazes I have ever had on these figural pieces. This piece of Coppertone was made during Weller's Middle Period Circa 1918-1935. The displays several very realistic looking Apples. The Apples are hanging from Branches and are Ripe, Plump and some are ready for Picking. The leaves have very nice coloring in them as well. The Apples are glazed in Red with Yellow and slight hues of green. I believe they are Macintosh Apples or"Macs" as we say here in the Northeast. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks. Nicks, chips or dings. There is a couple of pin pops and glaze misses but they are common ... morein this glaze and do not detract from its' beauty. The bottom has rough spots where the Vase sat. This is common with the Baldin Vases as that happened when it was fired. The piece is signed with Wellers' Block Letter signature. This Weller Baldin Vase has some wonderful coloring and detail. I'm sure the lucky winner will not be disappointed with their Purchase. This Vase will work in any Mission. Arts and Crafts or Country Decor. In Fact. I think it will work with most decors including primitives. The Vase was produced during Weller's early Middle Period. This piece was made Circa. 1915-1920. WELLER POTTERY, BEDFORD MATT GREEN, SQUAT FLOWER FROG CENTERPIECE BOWL, RARE~~~
For Auction is a very nice vase made by the Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville. Ohio. The Pattern is known as"Bedford Matt Green" and it is an outstanding example. I would call this item a"Flower Frog Planter or Squat Vase. The planter has some size to 2 1/4" and is 8 1/8" in diameter. This Squat Vase displays a very Mottled Matte Green Glaze accented with charcoaling. This Glaze is very similar to Hampshire's Cucumber Matte Green Glaze and I suspect that Weller created the Bedford Matt Green Line to specifically compete with them. The Shape is a very pleasing one as it can also be used as a center piece bowl as well. The Planter is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks. Nicks, chips or dings. The piece is unsigned but it has the Painted Blue Green Glaze on the bottom side. This is a ... moretell tale sign of unsigned Weller in the Bedford Matt Line. Those of you who decorate in the Arts and Crafts, Mission Style will surely welcome this accessory into the home. It will also enhance any Matte Green art Pottery Collection. This would look outstanding with anyone Decorating with Gustav Stickley or Mission Arts and Crafts Furniture. I have been a dealer/collector for the past 39 years. This is the first time I have ever seen or owned this particular form. I would consider this form to be quite Rare! I'm sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. The Bedford Matt Line was considered an early line by Weller Pottery Circa 1905-1920. CLICK ON THIS LINK TO SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS Please wait for my Invoice before paying. WELLER POTTERY, CORNISH BULBOUS BUD VASE, ARTS + CRAFTS
For Auction I have a Lovely piece of Pottery made by The Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville. Ohio. The pattern is"Cornish" and the form is a Vase. The Vase measures 8 1/2" tall and is approximately 4" in diameter at the widest point. The rim measures approximately 1 3/4" wide. The Vase depicts a Mottled Caramel or Terra Cotta colored Background Glaze. Weller considered this their Brown in this line. There are embossed leaves with a stem that has berries hanging from it. The Leaves overlay three rings that surround the Vase and there are Mock Scroll Handles applied on each side. The back of the Vase is Plain except for the Mottled Glaze. The leaves have an Olive Green Hue to them and three of the Berries are Glazed in a Dark Blue. The other three are Glazed in a Pale Green as if they have not ripened as of yet. The ... moreVase is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks. Chips, nicks or dings. The Vase is signed on the bottom with the incised Script"Weller Pottery" as well as the letter"B" in Black. This was more than likely the Artist or the finisher's mark. This Vase will work well in any Arts and Crafts of Mission setting as well as a Country decor. The Vase was made Circa 1933. This wonderful High Glaze Owen's/ or Weller oil lamp. converted) with all the original parts still intact, both of these companys used this pattern, I have seen this more on Weller,it is converted but, done wonderfully, my feelings believe, it is Weller, due to the top part of the lamp and the special touches, especially the metal work, it was done early on the conversion, The lamp is 12" wide base, and globe, it is a total of 5 pieces, and all in excellent condition, the total height is 18"without clear glass flute, 24" with flute. I am amazed for as old as this piece is there is no chips, no flakes, at all, no crazing in the gloss finish, the wonderful metal scarf that sets on top of the white globe, is original and not a break or bend in any of the areas,it is a soft metal as it should be, there are 14 pieces, that make ... morethe scarf, and it is hand assembled. The oil part of the lamp is of a ornate brass finish very, well done as well, this is a footed lamp, I am offering this lamp, and I will take a sensible, OFFER" to remove this from the auction block happy bidding On Feb-12-13 at 15:01:17 PST. Seller added the following information: This is a Weller Dickens Ware. Numbered and artist signed, it is a great piece and in doing research this is a rare style for this type of lamp, it was done well and is 113 years old, and deserves the proper home, and of course, a better price for it

Samuel Weller opened the original Weller Pottery factory in Fultonham. Ohio in 1872 but moved the pottery to Zanesville, Ohio in 1888. Zanesville was once known as“Clay City” and“Pottery Capital of the World” due to its’ proximity to the raw materials needed to manufacture stoneware and pottery. Samuel Weller initially concentrated on utilitarian stoneware items that had a ready market. Stoneware is made from certain clays that, when ... morefired at high temperatures, become nonporous and very durable. Stoneware items initially were utilitarian wares such as butter churns, pickle crocks and stone bottles for ginger beer and the like. In 1894 Samuel Weller purchased the Lonhuda Faience Pottery which had developed special glazing techniques under the supervision of Laura Fry. A former Rookwood Pottery designer. Other designers who worked at the pottery include Charles Upjohn, Jacques Sicard and Frederick Rhead. By 1904 Weller Pottery was the largest art pottery in the world but due to strong competition from inexpensive Japanese imports was forced to close its’ doors in 1948. This Weller Pottery“monk" vase is in an ovoid form with an sgraffito incised pattern and is signed on the bottom with the words“Dickensware” and“Weller” Sgraffito is a ceramic decorating technique that incises the layers of coloured slip(liquid clay) with a design to reveal the contrasting colour of the ground beneath. Sgraffito has been in use since classical times and comes from the Italian word for scratch. Sgraffiare. Posted with
