Delicate Dresden Porcelain Centerpiece from the 19th Century. It Becomes a Chandelier. Fine centerpiece made of fine Dresden porcelain. Hand-decorated with flowers and a romantic scene. This is a magnificent example of the great porcelain pieces which were made in Meissen(Dresden) in the 19th century. As well as its beautiful decoration and quality making, this centerpiece has another feature that provides it with even more attractiveness: its top can be removed and then the piece becomes a stylized candlestick. The detachable part is designed to store fruits, and its base is perforated to ventilate the contents. This part connects with the base by means of a metal cylinder, which prevents the upper piece from falling. When it is removed we can see the base’s hole, intended to house a candle. And so the piece becomes a lovely romantic candlestick. ... moreThis piece’s decoration is typical of the style of the century when it was made. The white high-quality porcelain is molded in the shape of bunches of flowers(hydrangeas in this case) and groups of leaves. Painted in subtle nice colors. The base is decorated with two small sculptures depicting a young couple surrounded by flowery garlands. The girl is holding a wreath of flowers and is looking back, while the boy delicately touches her chin. The figures’ clothes are evocative of bucolic and pastoral scenes. On the other hand, the fruit bowl has a nice golden edge and inside we can see a lovely hand-painted bunch of pink hydrangeas. The bowl’s handles show some slight reparations, but except for this detail the piece is in good condition, being a real antique and a highly beautiful item. LOT OF 2 DRESDEN? LOVELY PORCELAIN w/GILT DUAL CANDLE HOLDERS/CANDELABRAS. There are no maker's marks on these two candle holders but they are made in the Dresden style. The smaller one has a gold"20" on the bottom. The larger candelabra style holder measures 6" tall and close to 9-1/2" wide. It has no cracks or chips but there is a small indentation on the rim that is glazed over so I think it was made that way. There are a couple of very tiny rough spots on the rims where the candles sit. I only mention them so there are no surprises for the buyer. The smaller holder is 2-1/2" tall and 5-1/4" wide. The lamp base measures 13 ¼ inches or 33.5 cm high to the top of the socket. And is 6 ¼ inches or 16 cm wide at the base. The figural lamp base features a scrolling footed base which is further enhanced with heavy applied gold. The figures are a man and woman in their finest clothes. They are decorated with applied porcelain flowers and heavy applied gold. Behind them a tree trunk rises up and holds the socket. The lamp has a single light with a push button switch. For sale is a vintage or antique 10" tall Dresden Candlestick. This one has a depiction of a young girl sitting on the back of a goat that is laying down. Girl has a garland of a grape vine with grape clusters. This one has quite a bit of damage- two of the petals at the top of the"tree" is broken off- the tree itself has broken at some point and has been re-glued(not professionally) leaves are broken on the bottom of the tree and one of the grape leaves are broken off. A theology student called Georg Heinrich Macheleidt received permission from the regional prince in Germany to set up a porcelain manufacturing company in the small town of Sitzendorf. In 1760. The first porcelain factory was established. It was moved to Volkstedt in 1762. The actual manufacturer of figurines began in the town of Sitzendorf in 1884 though the factory began working with porcelain in 1850. By 1809, the company had a second factory and had introduced steam power that helped them employ a total of 300 employees in two factories in a town with a population of 700. The factory remains in operation into the present day. Sitzendorf porcelain is identified and valued by its year of manufacture. The year and the stamping on the porcelain indicate under which of the owner managers the piece was produced. Everything from the Macheleidt period would obviously be the most valuable(determined of course by condition) There are several distinct periods in the management history of the factory. Antique Dresden Porcelain Candlestick by Franziska Hirsch - Late 19th C
Beautiful. Handpainted candlestick by Franziska Hirsch in excellent condition. Although the candlestick is marked"Dresden" and has the famous crossed swords indicative of"Meissen" however, the addition of the small letter"H" above the sword attributes it to Hirsch. Between 1894 and 1895, Hirsch copied the Meissen trademark until the courts, at Meissen's insistence, stopped him. The candlestick measures 6 3/4" tall with a base that is 4 3/8" in diameter. The top is 2" in diameter and holds a 7/8" in diameter candle. It's in excellent condition. Without any chips, cracks, missing paint or wear to the gilt. I did my best to capture the style and quality in pictures. And to describe the piece as completely as possible, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Each of these unmarked late 1800s hand modeled porcelain candle holders measures 10 ½” tall x 4 ½” square at the footed base and feature an elegant female figure(5 ¾” tall) with winged companion(2 ½” tall) They are unmarked. The lady with lavender gown has repairs and loss to her right hand and both have repaired candle sockets. Close study of each reveals slight differences in the modeling of the figures and each has a somewhat varied color scheme. There is a hairline in the“cloud” base of the lady with damaged fingers.
