The factories produced excellent porcelains from 1850- The lad holding a"pan" or"pan flute" is dressed handsomely in red and green striped pantalone and floral designed great coat with black period hat. He is holding a big horn goat under his left arm. ALL details are in mint condition.no chips, cracks, repairs or loss of coloration. He rests against a tree trunk. This candlestick is 9 1/2" high, he is 7" tall and 3" wide and the candle opening is 1" wide. The lassie is dressed in a floral print skirt. The candlesticks feature blanc de chine figures of a man and woman in fine dress each holding a basket in front of them. They stand on raised round bases with a celestial blue glaze and applied porcelain flowers. Leaves and vines. The bases are further enhanced with hand painted flowers with yellow centers. They are further enhanced with heavy applied gold highlights. The bottoms of the candlesticks have an underglaze blue crossed line mark for Sitzendorf. A theology student called Georg Heinrich Macheleidt received permission from the regional prince in Germany to set up a porcelain manufacturing company in the small town of Sitzendorf. In 1760. The first porcelain factory was established. It was moved to Volkstedt in 1762. The actual manufacturer of figurines began in the town of Sitzendorf in 1884 though the factory began working with porcelain in 1850. By 1809, the company had a second factory and had introduced steam power that helped them employ a total of 300 employees in two factories in a town with a population of 700. The factory remains in operation into the present day. Sitzendorf porcelain is identified and valued by its year of manufacture. The year and the stamping on the porcelain indicate under which of the owner managers the piece was produced. Everything from the Macheleidt period would obviously be the most valuable(determined of course by condition) There are several distinct periods in the management history of the factory. VICTORIAN SITZENDORF CHERUBIM CANDELABRA early 20th century GERMAN PORCELAIN
Outstanding Vintage Sitzendorf Candelabra in Excellent Condition This is truly a rare and beautiful piece. The hallmark at the base of both candlesticks shows this to be a Sitzendorf from the early 1900's and the elaborate touches show Victorian Craftsmanship at its finest. Each candlestick has 2 cherubs holding a flower in each hand while 1 of the cherubs is also carrying a basket of"dimensional" flowers. As you can see in the pictures. These are also adorned with hand sculpted flowers at the base of each candelabra and on the arm of each candle holder. Please note these can be displayed 2 different ways: As a 5 arm candelabra or as a single candlestick(for those smaller spaces) Here are the measurements: 16 inches high with the 5 arms attached 11 1/2 inches high without the attachment 11 inches wide going across the arms 6 ... more1/2 inches wide at the base As a special note the cherubs measure 6 1/2 inches from base to tallest reach. Truly this is an item you do not want to miss out on. I have seen individual Sitzendorf candle holders for sale every once in a while but it is very rare to have a pair still be in tact for over 100 years.
