Guerin Limoges design studio decorated match stick holder cobalt blue and white
I have for you this evening a rather unique item that I believe is an ink well that is missing its well and cover. This item was made and decorated at the porcelain factories and studios of Guerin Limoges in France towards the end of the 19th century. This lovely and substantial piece is made of very fine grade very heavy porcelain and is cast into an unusual shape with ribbed center portion. This piece is white and painted in a cobalt blue. This could easily be used as candle holder and I suspect that it has been. This would make a unique addition to your collection and would look great sitting on an antique period desk with a large pillar style handle sticking out of it. European Ceramic Candlesticks Cobalt Blue Glass Gold Trim
For your consideration is a pair of ceramic candle sticks. These are from my mother's estate and all I know is that they were purchased in Europe either France or Italy and are at least 25 years old. The stand 8" tall and appear to be hand painted. Top is 3/8" across and base is 3-3/4" across. Cobalt blue glass is incorporated in the ceramic. Appears to be gold-leaf bands across the holders. He was not allowed to transfer his money out of Egypt. But was allowed to use funds only in buying Egyptian merchandise) Mendenhahl purchased a great number of the Farouk treasures. And brought them by ocean liner to NYC. Where he returned to live. The Farouk collections were taken from the ship to a NYC warehouse where they remained for about 20 years. The traumatic events drained Mendenhahl's physical and mental health. And the great collection remained warehoused until the son and heir ordered a dispersal sale after his f ather died. That was a 9 day sale. And we attended the first 3 days of the sale. Selecting inventory items for an antique business we were opening. Circa 1900. This exceptional set consists of two 5-arm candelabras and one clock. The clock may or may not be in working condition and comes with its key. When I manually turn the long hand to the number XII. And the short hand is on VII, the chime plays 7 times. And when I manually turn the long hand to the number VI, and the short hand is between VII and VIII, the chime plays 1 time. Each piece of the set decorated in cobalt blue with gilt accents ... moreand porcelain figural decorations. And the foliate candelabras decorated with porcelain roses in full relief. Spectacular! T he candelabras measure approximately 20 ½" tall. 10 ½" wide at the widest point, the clock is 16" tall, and the base of each piece of the set is 6 ⅝" long, 4 ¾" wide. One figure of the clock has a broken hand(please see pictures) and a bronze part of one candelabra has a crack. Otherwise t his stunning set is in excellent like-new condition with no chips.
