Each of the drawers has a working lock and the key is included. There are 3 glass shelves on the upper center and 6 wood shelves in the upper left and right unit. Each of lower doors conceals one wood shelf. The upper unit is lighted but the current cord should be replaced. This item is in wonderful antique condition with only minor signs of age appropriate wear as pictured. The original antique bubble glass is free from breaks or damage which is very hard to come by. The backing to the upper unit looks to be lined in a off white colored wall paper and there is a red drip stain to this surface as seen in image#18 on the lower left side. Wear to the finish on one of the shelves can also be seen in image#18. Breakfront measures 92"h x 72"w x 16"d in total. The upper unit measures 56"h x 70"w x 12"d. The bookcase is made from mahogany whilst the delicate inlay is made from softerwoods including rosewood and satinwood. The inlay work on this bookcase is particulary fine which is hopefully in evidence in the photos supplied. The hardware is period but is probably not original. There have been at least two different sets of hardware on the piece over the years. It is rare as it has been crafted from the most beautiful burr walnut, and only a few bookcases were made in such beautiful French burr walnut. And to cap it all, it has wonderful hand cut and masterfully executed, inlaid decoration. It has two glazed doors on top for displaying your favourite books with two useful drawers below. T he two paneled doors on the bottom open to reveal a spacious cupboard. It retains it's original handles and locks. Oval inlay on lower doors, Dovetailed drawer joints, Locking doors, Plinth base, Sturdy. Minor scuffs, Minor crack in pull backplate, Very good overall condition, This beautiful antique style yew bookcase was crafted in England around 1960. Today. It remains as beautiful as ever, with a rich yew complexion and grain that are sure to look great ... morein any setting. Dental moulding adorns the top, while the upper doors are made with astragal glass; this is an especially high quality method of crafting glass doors, since they are made of individual panes and not a single sheet of glass. Elegant columns flank the face, while crossbanding and quarter-veneering adorn the drawer fronts and lower cabinet doors, the latter of which feature stylish oval inlays. Both sets of doors lock with an accompanying pair of keys, while the drawers each feature dovetailed joints. The top of this bookcase simply sits on the lower section, so they separate easily for movement and shipping. Although this yew bookcase remains very sturdy, it has sustained some minor scuffs here and there; one of the brass swan neck pulls on the drawers has also sustained some tiny cracks in the backplate. Overall condition is therefore very good. With a total of three adjustable or removable shelves and two drawers this bookcase offers plenty of storage.
