Up for auction is this Rare'Defries Safety Lamp' made incorporating Sepulchres patent. it is a centre draught lamp and was widely described in Victorian books on oil lamps and fuels as an example of a really safe centre-draught oil lamp. The safety features are. Heavy all metal construction, a burner with no vents through to the fount, a substantial gauze in the burner top between the flame and the rest of the burner, and a metal tube around the outside of the wick, fixed to the burner. This example proves the type. Considerably heavier metal than most similar centre draught lamps. It is in the form of a drop in fount, which sits in a matching, ventilated cup, on a glossy black English ceramic base. All this extra metalwork and manufacture raised the cost a lot. These were expensive, making them less common to start with. The metal ... moretube around the outside of the wick adds problems, it is ribbed, as is the inner draught tube. It is very easy for the wick to get twisted up as the burner is screwed in and out(many threads of course for security) and jam between the 2 tubes. This leads to failures due to force being used. The lamp takes an unusual sized chimney. About 3mm smaller than the usual 2&1/2 inch centre draught. As these are not available, folks jam in an ordinary chimney, and the chimney grip fingers are often broken, also tops and flamespreader get lost. Wick is a funny size. This one is in good condition. there are no chips or cracks to the black pot base. The brass foot and'pot' are clean. And without cracks or dents. stands straight. The fount is a perfect, snug, fit in the pot. There is one small thumb sized dent in the bottom edge of the fount. hidden in use because it is in the pot. No cracks, perishing, other dents or splits to the fount. Fount holds oil with no leaks. Has correct, distinctive, filler plug. The black engraved glass insert to the winder knob has a fine crack across it, but the 2 halves are not about to drop out! The flamespreader has lost about 1/4 of an inch from

Base in perfect condition, no chips or cracks. Shade has small chips on its rim, hardly noticeable and and would not be seen when the shade is put in place. The pull chain works perfect. This is an absolutely gorgeous antique lamp. The brass body panel has an orchard scene with people finely dressed. Topiary trees, birds, and floral wreaths. It is stunning. I don't know if they would have cast the metal or pressed the pattern in. The collar is also finely detailed with a floral pattern and the on/off switch is also brass and turns. ANTIQUE HANDEL LILY DESK LAMP; RARE YELLOW GREEN SLAG GLASS; DUFFNER ERA
For sale is a beautiful documented Handel lily lamp as shown in pictures 1-12. This lamp is relatively rare in that its glass color is not Handel's standard dark green. Rather. It is a lighter striated yellow green. Also the base metal and the metal holding the petals has a lighter golden brown patina that is more in keeping with the muted colors of the glass. The true patina color is shown in natural sun light in photo 3. The true color of the glass is shown in natural light in photos 2& 3. Although the base and shade are unsigned. This lighter colored variation of Handel's lily lamp is pictured(documented) in"The Handel Lamp Book" by Hibel. Hibel& Fontaine at page 30 at the top right. The lily pad base of the lamps were made of cast iron and thus much more difficult to emboss with the Handel mark than the softer ... morepot metal table lamps. Hence, most of these lily pad bottoms had weak lettering(a couple of letters) to no impressions at all. The lamp has been rewired with a period appropriate brown cloth cord that has been spliced at the bottom. See photos 9& 10. The lamp has its original bakelight plug. photo 8) The socket has a GE paddle. Photo 12. The socket works perfectly. The socket shell is spot welded closed at two spots. You can see one of them in photo 2. The shade is 4 inches long from back to front tip(i.e. The front to back diameter) The shade's side to side diameter is 4 1/2 inches wide. The shades front opening is 2 1/4 inches in diameter. It takes one of the narrow pointed bulbs. Unfortunately. The lamp has one panel of glass missing. Fortunately, it is in the least conspicuous spot. The underside. The framing for the petal is still intact. The missing piece can only be noticed by viewing the lamp from the back side(photo 11) or from the underside(photo 12) Because of Handel's overlapping petal pattern, the loss is barely noticable. You are bidding on a very rare signed Prof. G. Gambogi light. This piece is made from marble(at base) to the gypsy being alabaster. The four little figures holding the light are made of brass. It is made in Italy. The globe is not original to this piece. The family who owns this piece had it for 40 years and prior to her recieving this piece it was her fathers. And she remembers it from when she was young. This piece weighs about 40 to 45lbs, it has great detail, and constructed to last. It is more beautiful in person. Here we have a version of what I can gather was the first model of lamp in America to be made specifically for use with the new wonder fuel'Kerosene' in the 1850's. I would imagine this model to be late 1850s- early 1860s. Dimensions; roughly 8" tall from wick-tube to breather/drip-cup and around 5 1/2" across the fount. Condition; as found. Missing Argand(hollow tubular wick) burner, wick holder looks to be there but the strap of metal that joins it to the mechanism has been snapped(it appears it might have been forced as ... morethe screw it rides on inside the fount is rusty and it was likely frozen hence the damage) I tried to show it in the images, various dings here and there from the last 150+ years to be expected, drip cup base is dented, please see images, I'm sure someone with time and skill can sort this out. This is a great brass signed. Bavoux" on bottom of base and on tank cap) antique oil lamp. Also marked(not sure this is accurate) Brevet Dinven Et Perfection. Sans Gar Du Gouter. J.B.X. on piece which extends out to burner. Unusual design. Stands 16 3/8" tall. Very good condition. There appears to be 2 repair as shown one where teh burner extension piece attaches to tank and the back of the tank. The back of tank repair appears to have a small hole in the repair. Finger loop at top appears to be misshapen but may just be crudely designed. Screw-on tank cap moves freely as do height adjustment lever and wick adjustment. No wick. There are a few of the top curved pieces that are loose they are held in place by plaster sockets which is how they did it back then. Unique design with the treble clef which may have been intended to hold a music sheet. Very Heavy for a piano lamp. Shade height is adjustable from approx 9 to 18 inches. The Treble Clef does not bend to adjust in height but is removable by unscrewing the symbol. Lamp is in good working condition and has some cosmetic wear as shown in the photos. Very Rare Unusual Original 1940's Bakelite Bedside Table Lamp Smokers Ashtray! This has come from a lovely lady who has many original items from her home. This bakelite lamp is very unusual as it has a little ashtray and a place to put a standard box of matches on it- imagine- smoking in bed! BUt it's how life was then. Having said that it appears that this has never been used for that purpose. It was plugged in and being used the standard bayonet fitting will still hold our modern day light bulbs. I would recommend that it be rewired to modern fittings. The flex on this is incredibly long and there is an original bakelite switch which has been dismantled from the flex. Very unusual. The lamp stands at just over 11" high. The base has a fine hairline crack but is only noticeable from underneath.

Absolutely Stunningl Ornate Antique Corday Lady Lamp-Rare Large Size 16" Figure
Description Very unusual and hard to find large antique Corday Figure on a lamp base. Figure is 16" tall- lamp is 23" tall to top of bulb socket. The base is 10" wide by 6-1/2" deep. It is in good condition with some minor flaws. There is some paint peeling on the top of the hat as seen in the photos and there is a small hairline as seen in the last 3 pictures with the green boxes around them. There are a few chips on the flowers. Please check out the pictures to see all the detail and some minor damage. It is heavy- weights about 12 pounds. Email with questions. Vintage Cactus Lamp 4 lights 64" tall Floor Mid Century White Washed Rare Exc.
Have a beautiful vintage Cactus lamp probably from the late 70's to 80's in excellent contition. It is 63" tall x 14" wide at the widest part and the same at the base. It has 4 lights along with 4 glass shades that are 3" wide x 4" tall. A very rare all wood tall lamp in the shape of a cactus. These originated in just an dark walnut finish in the early 70's. This one has been done in a white wash to fit in with the modern look. You can put what ever light bulb you wish for any occasion. Christmas lights. Halloween, birthdays etc. It has 2 different settings high and low and the wire is in excellent condition. Like I said it is hard to find these and I personally have never seen one in this color. Vintage Marbro Lamp Dark Onyx W/Shade Beautiful and rare color
Beautiful Marbor Lamp made of solid Onyx in excellent vintage condition. NO breaks or repairs. Just very minor knick and I mean knicks can easily be pollished out. The over all height to the top of the finial is 34 1/2" and the base is 6 1/2" square. The lamp shade is 18" round. I have not checked to see if it works but I would suggest to have it rewired. It looks ok but I think it best for a lamp this age to have it done. I would gather it to be from the 1920's definetly mid Century. Just a stunning piece and hard to find in this color. Bankers Desk Lamp Piano Lamp Student Lamp Rare Black Glass Brass Marble Base
This listing is for a beautiful banker's style desk lamp with gorgeous black glass shade and black marble and brass base. I believe the marble on the base is real as lamp is very heavy at 4.5 lbs. But the marble on the column feels faux, but I could be wrong. I believe the brass is also real as magnets do not stick to it. Black glass shade is intact and is not broken and it has no chips or cracks. The brass base is tarnished and could use a polishing. I will leave that to the new owner. The lamp is in working order and turns on with the pull chain. All electrical looks good. UL listed sticker is inside the lamp shade. Sale includes light bulb shown. Beautiful lamp.
