GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Colima Dog This is a wonderful Colima figural dog vessel. As found in a local estate and believed to be an ancient piece from Western Mexico, approximately ... moretwo thousand years old. The dog is fat- or pregnant- with a hollow body in aggressive stance with tail that forms a spout. The dog's eyes and mouth are incised into the clay. Dog effigies such as this were buried in tombs in the belief that dogs were an important guide into the afterlife of the deceased. Both of the dog's ears are chipped; one with minor loss. The other more significantly. Two legs have been re-glued; the repairs are rough and amateur, and the break lines appear to have had some loss and are not well-aligned. The burnished reddish brown exterior is mottled and veined. And the interior is encrusted with mineral sediment. The dog came to me without information on its history or provenance. But shows many indications of its age. It's a fascinating piece that is sure to complement any collection. Two legs repaired somewhat roughly. One ear is broken. The other is chipped. Other expected wear. Burnished exterior, rough interior with sediment deposits. 9 3/8" long. 6" high, 5" across[ p e n c i l p o i n t e r Shipping? FREE via USPS Priority International Shipping? GALLERIA VERGÈS Home Pre-Columbian ~ WARI/ HUARI ~ Polychrome VESSEL Click on these links to view larger photos: 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6 This is a Pre-Columbian ... moreWARI/ HUARI Polychrome Vessel from Peru. 500- 900 A.D. It measures about 5 1/2" X 5 1/2" X 7" 14.0 cm X 14.0 cm X 17.9 cm) The vessel depicts a couple of figures, either anthropomorphic or zoomorphic. The Wari Culture was a Middle Horizon Civilization located 6.8 miles( 11.0 km) North-East of the modern city of Ayacucho. Ayacucho was then the center of a civilization that covered much of the Highlands and Coast of modern-day Peru. Besides the Wari Ruins, the Northern Wari Ruins or Cerro Patapo, are the best-preserved remnants. It is believed that the vast expansion of the Wari Empire was due to religion conversion, military conquest, or the spread of agricultural knowledge(mainly Terrace agriculture) The Waris grew bitter potato and corn, raised llama and alpaca. The Waris were into a trading network across The Andes where figurines, ceramic vessels, textiles, and metals were traded. Custom listed using TROCADERO's automated HTML and Picture Hosting tools. Pre Columbian reproduced Muisca terracotta pottery double bowl stirrup vessel
This is a really nicely created Pre a Columbian double Jar and spout stirrup vessel typical of Muisca Culture of Columbia. It was recreated in painstaking detail with patina and manganese deposits. I believe a series of Pre Columbian art pieces have been made in Britain and this is one of several I have purchased. Nicely done. Sits on two pottery rings. Great for the lower budget collector of pre Columbian artifacts and from a culture not typically seen online. Great eye catching decor. Muisca culture is from Columbia circa 5000C to 1500BC. They were a very large and well devolved pre Columbian confederations of cultures and were larger than most other groups more readily known. Thought to exist beginning as long as 5500 BC. Heavy item for shipping but sturdy. 11 inches long. 8 inches tall, and 51/2 inches deep. Big boy. Beautifully rendered. ... moreSee my other Pre Columbian artifacts and unique gifts. pre-Columbian vessel head trophy wTL test Doc! Veracruz Mayan pottery ceramic
You are bidding on a large vessel head of Veracruz Maya culture; you look at the head of it can be seen that there is either a trophy head or around a sacrificial ritual. The facial expression is dead. Which speaks well for the ritual, where victims were skinned and priests covered skin. On the top is a hole, which was used for hanging. Small chipping, scratches and minor crashes, the original coating(which should probably represent skin) has defects. A rare and interesting piece, these ceramics are hard to get!
