Jamacoaque ... morefrom a private collection dating 350 B C- 1200 A D. This is not a reprodution. The front has a human head on what sems to be the front of a jaguar with paw feet. It tapers to a rounded point and has a handle. The face has excellent detail with deep set eyes with brow ridges, earrings, very prominent nose ring and an open mouth with pointed teeth. The teeth give it a rather frightening appearance no doubt intentional. The nose is not damaged but obscured by the thick nose ring that hangs down onto the top lip. The head with a headdress and side lappets. There is a hole at the back end and one in back of the head. The body is clear but I believe there is still debris in the head as IT WILL NOT TWEET. I did not want to try to dislodge debris and damage the holes. It measures 4 1/2 inches long and approx 4 1/4 inches high and rests on two paw feet. Clay color is a buff color not quite as dark as in the photos. I am saying Jamacoaque but it was in with Jamacoaque and also La Tolita fragments and I am not an expert. It is in very good condition with some chips to the side lappets that are not evident from the front but I have the damage pictured. I see evidence of an old repair or restoration on the front legs as there is a thin line that extends over to the back(see photos) However. I do not see evidence of a clean break all around and I do not see any type of glue in the lines. The clay color is very consisent and the restoration or repair was done a long time ago in Ecuador and not by the private collector who brought them back years ago. There seems to be no evidence of trying to hide the breaks unless they were cracks and the piece was not broken or separated. Other pieces in the collection had repairs and evidence of glue and some of these are in my other listings. I have close up photos of the lines or breaks that i have darkened a bit in the photos to show

Pre-Columbian Tumaco La Tolita Ceramic Head Colombia Ecuador
For your Bidding Consideration in this Auction is a Pre-Columbian Ceramic Head from the La Tolita Culture in the Tumaco Region. The region encompassed areas of both Ecuador and Colombia so placing the exact location is normally difficult. The head measures@ 8 1/2" tall and showcases the classic ritually deformed head shape with pierced ears having Ear Spools. A snake is seen protruding from the mouth and wrapped around to the top of the head. There is a hole in the back of the head and both Ear Spools appear to have been repaired at some point(see photos) that is not noticeable from the front and really only noticeable if you turn it around and then upside down. The head rests on a custom made wooden stand which is included in the auction. The right side of the forehead has red paint on the frontal lobe which has faded with time. Please ... morenote. This pottery fragment shows a face with arms reaching up to the mouth. This head. Possibly wearing a hat, is from the lug of a larger piece of pottery. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR FRAGMENT HEAD POLYCHROME ANCIENT This is an authentic(not a reproduction) ancient pre columbian polychrome head fragment from Ecuador. In close inspection there are traces of black manganese deposits and what appears to be tiny crystals in the clay. These are so small you almost need a jewelers loupe to see them but they reflect in the light. The clay is a yellowish color with original red paint on the face and one side. The top of the head is arched backward as you can see from the side view. It is missing the long piece of what appears to be a headdress on the right side but the rest of the head seems in excellent condition. There is a hole in the top of the head on the edge still with soil in it and you can see the debris still in the mouth and eyes. The head is hollow. It measures 4 1/2 inches over the top of the ... morehead to the chin. 2 3/4" across the crown with the face itself is 2 x 1 1/2" The opening on the underside allows the figure to be suspended and mounted. It is suspended i on a lucite stand only to display and photograph it in the upright position as it will not stand on its own. The nose has a long rounded cut underneath that seems intentional as I have other figures with the nose the same making the it protrude. This appears to be a female head with earrings. It is very three dimensional when viewed from the side with heavy lidded yes. I am not an expert and cannot positively identify the culture but it was in a private collection with La Tolita fragments. La Tolita was in Northern Ecuador between 300 B.C.and 200 A.D. in the Period of Regional Development. Please free to ask questions and look carefully at my photographs for details.

Large rounded eyes with the left showing some damage. Ear spools and a nose ring and a decorated ruffle or necklace around the neck. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR AUTHENTIC POTTERY FRAGMENT ANIMAL OR SHAMAN HEAD
PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT ECUADOR Very unusual authentic pottery head fragment that is difficult to identify as to the subject. It apprears to be an animal with a long snout. Some of which is missing, and the remains of two horns on the back of the head. Since it is wearing a rather ornate headdress it might be an zoomorphic representation of a Shaman but there is not enough of the figure to make any kind of distinction. The headress has the remains of red paint and there are pieces missing. The cheeks are puffed out, some of the figures have puffed heeks attributed to chewing of coca leaves but that is doubtful for an animal and possible or a Shaman. The clay color is mottled grayish tan. Some fine crystaline deposits evident in the clay. One cheek is depressed as it it were done before firing or collapsed after firing as it is ... morenot broken. There is a small firing hole at the top of the head and the head is hollow. It is 2 3/4 inches high and 2 3/4 inches across the front. The base where it is broken is a circle 1 3/4 inches in diameter with a hole that is 3/4 inches in diameter. It will sit flat as it is in most of the photographs or will mount nicely. It was in a private collection from Eccuador with La Tolita and Jamacoaque fragments but since I am not an expert I cannot positively identify the culture or the exact age. These two cultures span from 300 B.C. to 1000 A.D. This is not a reproduction.

PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT JAMACOAQUE This is a very expressive piece of authentic Pre Columbian pottery with a very realistic face almost Grecian looking. Very heavily lidded eyes in a peaceful expression. The figure is wearing a headdress that is more like a cap over the hair with decorative earrings that have deep notches with some remaining red paint. Hopefully these are not the ears. It looks like button earrings in front and the figure has a nose ring and a lip plug. The back shows the remains of part of a necklace. It measures 2 1/2 inches high and will stand upright by itself as the circular base with a hole in it is flat. The head is hollow and has evidence of heavy black mineral deposits on one side. Basic clay color is a gray beige. There are also traces of red paint on the face. Keep in mind that this is not a ... moreburnished surface and the texture is rough and the close up photos are to show condition. At a regular viewing distance the head seems more normal looking and the condition is very good with very little damage and no repairs. It is from a private collection and is Jamacoaque culture.
