GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Ancient Pre-Columbian Teotihuacan Green Jade/Nephrite Amulet Figure 600 BCE ex Museum. I was told this was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York ... moreand was part of a collection sold off. The stand was made specifically for this piece by the museum. It's size and base holes were carved to exact specs so that the figure stands firmly and securely. I'm sure the base cost them a couple hundred dollars alone. It comes with the sale of this piece. This is 100% genuine and is over 2,500 years old. Although the rear looks like it has a crack from the photo, that is NOT a crack. It's a black vein in the rock. This is in museum condition. About 4 and 3/4 inches tall.

The Capulí ... morepreceded the Piartal and Tuza cultures in the archaeological record ranging from around 800 to 1500 CE. The Capulí culture left a strong record through its pottery. The Capulí had distinctive black on dark red pottery with rectilinear geometric designs. The anthropomorphic pottery statues of the Capulí can be striking. Women are depicted with a wrap that extends from the armpit to the ankle while men have loincloths and are often shown with an object such as a drum or animal. These figures are often called coqueros because they are depicted with wads of coca leaves in their mouths. Scholars have associated the figures with shamans and possible funerary rituals. Capulí goldwork is similar to that of later Ecuadoran and Columbian cultures. Smiths hammered and soldered high-carat gold into geometric and zoomorphic designs. Capulí graves contained a mix of grave goods including conch shells and stone axes. Some graves in Nariño are extremely deep. As much as 40m. Measuring 23cm one way and 24cm the other the height is around 10cm. 9 1/2in by 4in)The pottery is a light tan color, but the glaze is black. Around the outside is a carved swirling pattern with a roughly cut bottom. There are some very old chips and a couple that are not old, as well as two chips that have been reattached. There are no other problems or repairs. We may not know who made this ancient pre-Columbian Pottery Bowl, but one thing we are sure of is that some eBayer will win it.
