Held in Chicago, Illinois in 1893. The bowl has a view of the facade of the Woman's Building, in front of a lake with a gondola. The lower handle is a figure of Columbia, holding aloft a disk embossed with the words"World's Fair 1893 Chicago" The disk is topped by a pair of putti or cherubs, who support a wonderful detailed bust of Mrs. Potter Palmer, wife of the Columbian Exposition chairman. The reverse of the handle continues her image, and also carries her name, Bertha M. Honore Palmer, below the shoulders. This sterling spoon is 5 15/16" long. 1893 Columbian Exposition Worlds Fair Sterling Souvenir Demitasse Spoons (2)
Offered for your conisderation are these two sterling demitasse souvenier spoons from the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Both read sterling and measure 4" However the spoons are a bit different, perhaps from different manufacturers. One spoon is a bit heaver than the other and has a more rounded bowl. Graphics are similar, however the heavier spoon has just one line of stars on the handle banner, the lighter one has 3 lines of stars. The face of Queen Isabella on the back of the spoon is more longated on one than on the other. Both are in very good condition, one has wear. Especially because of it's piercing but more so for it's age and survival for more than 121 years. The top portion Worlds Fair and 93 are pierced The earth looks to be hand engraved continents. The bowl is hand engraved Chicago with a couple leaf sprigs. No makers name on the back, only stamped Sterling. I'm thinking this might be all hand made. It certainly looks like it and could have been. It measures 4 inches long and has a weight of.19 troy oz. In excellent condition with a nice natural patina. Wm Rogers Eagle Star Sterling Silver Spoon & 1904 Worlds Fair St Louis SP Spoon
There are two spoons. The first is stamped(Eagle figure) Wm Rogers(Star symbol) IS. This is sterling silver. This one has some scratches and deeper scratches on the back of the bowl. inspect the pictures.The second one is a 1904 Worlds Fair Souvenier with the" Electricity Building" highlighted in the bowl. It has"Imperial" stamped on the back of the handle.It has slight wear.
