I have some wonderful photographs of my grandfather and his mules at The Fair. I can imagine how exciting it was to have a World's Fair in your home state especially back in those days. This spoon has wonderful details and is a nice size. What a treasure it must have been to bring home. Item Varied Industries Building Sterling Silver Souvenir Spoon- 1904 St. Louis World's Fair Size Spoon: 5 1/2" Condition The spoon is in good condition. There are some scratches but mostly on the back of the spoon bowl. There is one spoon width scratch on the back(see photo 8) I polished the spoon but there are still some dark markings on the spoon. This is an antique Shepard Mfg. Co. sterling silver souvenir spoon dating back to 1904. It is a souvenir spoon of the Soldiers& Sailors Monument Indianapolis. Indiana. It has incredible detail in its design. It displays many scenes including a bull in a field, a log cabin with the words'who's here' and on the back an American eagle with arrows and a twig in its talons. It measures 5 1/2" long and weights 24 grams. Please note that the item was weighed on my kitchen scale. Which is not precise. If you are buying this item as scrap, please bid accordingly. This is an antique souvenir spoon depicting the Palace of Electricity building that was an exhibition hall at the World's Fair of 1904 held in St. Louis. Missouri. This beautiful spoon was designed and sold by a jewelry firm called Mermod& Jaccard Co. The spoon measures 5 1/2 inches long and weighs approximately 23 grams(according to my small pocket scale) On the back of the stem it is clearly marked"Sterling" and Mermod& Jaccard Co. Great 1904 Baltimore Fire Souvenir Commemorative Spoon Sterling Silver
The Great Baltimore(Maryland) Fire raged for two days in February 1904 destroying over 1.500 buildings and a major part of the central city. One reason for the fire's duration was the lack of national standards in fire-fighting equipment. Although fire engines from nearby cities and states responded. Many could not be used because their hose couplings would not fit Baltimore's. Perhaps the greatest legacy of the fire was the impetus it gave to efforts which led to standardized firefighting equipment in the United States. Especially hose couplings. Listed here for sale is a marvelous memento of that fire– a handsome sterling silver spoon manufactured by Mechanics Sterling. A subsidiary of the Watson Company. The fair was held in 1904 in St. Louis. MO! A lovely and historic souvenir spoon! This spoon is from my personal collection of 40 years. Auctions Cheerfully Combined! This sterling silver teaspoon measures 5-11/16" and is in excellent condition with no dings. Monograms or excessive wear. The spoon is clearly marked STERLING and has the mark for the Mermod Jaccard& Co. A well respected jeweler in St. Louis, MO. Condition: Excellent! There are no dings or bends. Any dark or overly bright spots are reflections from the camera or the lights and are not on the spoon. The Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Informally known as the St. Louis World's Fair. Was ... morean international exposition held in St. Louis, Missouri in 1904. The Expo was held to celebrate the centennial of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase but the planned opening was delayed from 1903 to 1904 to let more states and foreign countries participate. The bas-relief(embossed) handle begins with what looks like three old fashioned roses. Beneath the roses are two side-by-side ovals about 1 inch wide containing busts of Napoleon Bonaparte(left) and Thomas Jefferson(right) the two signatories for the sale. In 1803, of France's Louisiana Territory(all 828,000 square miles of it) to the United States for $15 million dollars(around $4 an acre) Each of the portraits are surrounded by laurel wreaths. Beneath the portraits is a bas-relief crown above a shield with three Fleur de Lis. Under that is stacked lettering reading ST. LOUIS with a bas-relief flower that looks like a white hawthorn blossom, Missouri's state flower, the leaves of which extend into the top of the bowl as scrollwork.
