State Capitol, Des Moines, Iowa, 5-3/4 inch sterling silver souvenir spoon, with the spoon having a dent on the backside of the bowl, and a crease along the edge of the bowl, as we are picturing with the attached images. There are no monograms, nor are there any other flaws not mentioned. Spoon measures 5-3/4 inches long, it is back marked with the old Gorham sterling hallmarks, and it weighs 19.7 grams on our jewelry scale. We are dating the spoon to ca. 1897 from the Lancaster Gorham sterling pattern, as that is the pattern on the spoon from old sterling flatware pattern books, see Terre Hagan's Sterling Flatware, page 52. Up for sale today is a cool antique souvenir Sterling Silver spoon from Des Moines. Iowa. This spoon was made by the Sterling Silver Mfg. Co. and carries their hallmark"SSMC" on the back, along with the"STERLING" mark. The company was based in Providence, Rhode Island from about 1910 to 1932. This spoon has great decoration on its handle- on the front, at top is a soldier with the slogan"Our liberties we prize, and our rights we maintain. Following down the handle front are flowers and wheat, followed by"IOWA" The bowl is engraved with"Des Moines. The back of the handle has an image of the"State Capitol" building, and more wheat. The spoon measures approx. 5 3/16" long. It weights approx. 13 grams according to our digital postal scale. Its in great condition. The handle's reverse depicts some patriotic imagery and bears a mark denoting silver content and a maker's mark I couldn't match with a corresponding company. Great looking sterling silver spoon Bily clocks- Spillsville Iowa Spoon is in great shape and is a very neat piece. Bily(Bee-lee) Clocks sterling souvenir spoon. Blue and white enamel accents on clock face. Two farmer brothers started carving during the winter of 1913 as a hobby and by the end of their life they have carved over 30 clocks. Some almost 10 feet tall and all with intricate carvings and moving parts. Reputedly offered a million dollars for one by Henry Ford, but they declined his offer and never sold a clock! When they passed, they left the clocks to their town with the stipulation that they never sell them. The currently reside in Bily Clock Museum in Spillville, IA

Five O'clock Sterling Silver teaspoon by the Weidlich Sterling Spoon Co of Bridgeport. CT 1915-1952. The age is unknown. The handle of the depicts an Indian with flag with the state motto'Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain' surrounding that vignette. Under that is the word Iowa with stars on either side which arcs over a depiction of the first capitol building that was built in Iowa City that is identified by the words State Capitol underneath. This creates a barrier over Iowa's prize agricultural industries presented as a cow, wheat, pig, and corn. The back side shows the Seal of the United States atop a laurel wreath which is atop the American flag. There are some small scratches on both sides of the bowl which are visible in bright light(no engraving) Other than that the spoon looks new. I was not able ... moreto locate another spoon to determine its age. I would say that it is probably more than 50 years old since the company closed in 1952. The sepia-toned pictures are from using a lower intensity flash to eliminate glare- the spoon is not discolored.

She is blind-folded(blind justice) and carries scales and the"sword of justice" At her right is the"lamp of wisdom" The spoon measures a hair shy of 5-3/8" long and weighs.65 troy ounces. The bowl is engraved. Oskaloosa, IA" Beneath Lady Justice is a patriotic symbol that I do not recognize; if anyone knows what it is called, and is willing to share, I will gratefully add the information to my listing.
