I have for sale 2 antique Kansas City Missouri Souvenir spoons in excellent estate condition as shown. The first spoon shows a Native American scene with teepee. Man on horseback, and squaw. Down the handle it is engraved Kansas City MO. I believe this spoon is most certainly pre-1940 as you can also see an eagle with a swastika on the handle. The swastika is an ancient symbol and was often used as a symbol for good luck; it is unlikely to have been used in America after Hitler co-opted it. Research indicates that the swastika became synonymous with the Nazi party in the 1930's so I estimate the spoon dates between 1905(when automotive travel was becoming more common) and the 1930's. The other spoon is a bit more plain and simply says"Kansas City" These spoons were hand-me-downs that came from the same owner and were among ... moreother pre-1940 flatware so I date them both the same period, and both as Kansas City Missouri. The company sold their flatware designs to Saart Brothers, and sometimes these patterns will appear under that name. W. H. Saart Company was founded by William H. Saart in 1905 in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and the firm was later renamed Saart Bros. Company The featured item represents a sterling silver souvenir spoon that measures approximately 5" tall. The piece weights about 10 grams on postal scale so its actual weight may vary a bit. I was not able to identify the pattern. This is a fairly rare Sterling silver souvenir spoon featuring John Brown's Monument is Osawatomie Kansas. The bowl appears to be gold washed. There is a makers mark which might be two lions surrounding a W. But it is pretty small and I'm not sure. The spoon is 5 5/8 inches long.
