Vintage sterling full figure cowboy Wyoming souvenir spoon Watson
This auction is for a fantastic sterling Wyoming souvenir spoon. This is a full figure cowboy on a horse that is roping a bull. My gosh the detail is fabulous on this spoon. The bowl is engraved Evanston. The back has a scene of a cowboy on a horse sheep herding. Marked on the back sterling. And then I believe the markers marks for a company called Watson which was later bought out by Wallace. It weighs.80 Troy ounce and is 5 1/4" long. Beautiful and in very good condition. This approximately 5" sterling spoon is very nice! It has a decorative handle which features the state seal with an eagle below it. Colorado is written on the handle. The back is marked sterling and has the Watson logo(crown. W, and another symbol) The following information was found on the netscape.com website about the shield: At the top is the eye of God within a trangle. From which golden rays radiate on two sides. Below the eye is a scroll, the Roman fasces, a bundle of birch or elm rods with a battle axe bound together by red thongs and bearing on a band of red, white and blue, the word, Union and Constitution. The Roman fasces is the insignia of a republican form of government. The bundle of rods bound together symbolizes strength which is lacking in the single rod. The axe symbolizes authority and leadership. Below the scroll ... moreis the heraldic shield bearing across the top on a red ground three snow-capped mountains with clouds above them. The lower half of the shield has two miner's tools, the pick and sledge hammer, crossed on a golden ground. Here today for your consideration we're pleased to offer this antique sterling silver souvenir demitasse spoon commemorating the state of Missouri. This piece surfaced at a recent estate sale where it was found buried in a dining room drawer full of other utensils. Lost and forgotten. Our spoon measures about 4.25" long. Decorative elements include the Missouri State Seal at the handle's tip with depiction of a plowing farmer below. Beneath the farmer wheat sheaf and a stalk of corn connect the stem to its bowl. The reverse of the handle is decorated as well with laurel wreath at tip below which appear the American eagle and what appear to be crossed flags, ... moreUS and State of Missouri. The bowl of this spoon is undecorated. Adjacent to the bowl on the handle's reverse side appear the word sterling and the logo of the Watson Silver Co. of Attleboro, Massachusetts.
