Antique Souvenir Sterling Silver Spoon Cowboy Indian Welder Bldg Victoria Texas
This is a very intricate Sterling Silver souvenir spoon. The antique spoon has a cowboy on a horse at the top of the spoon. There are cutouts for the horse's legs. So they show up better. Under the cowboy is the face of an Native American with a feathered headress. Beneath him is a bow and arrow and a tomahawk. The shaft of the spoon has further designs. On the bowl of the spoon are the words WELDER BLDG VICTORIA, TEX. There is also an engraving of the building. The back is void of decor and has the word STERLING in raised letters. This is an antique souvenir spoon depicting the Palace of Electricity building that was an exhibition hall at the World's Fair of 1904 held in St. Louis. Missouri. This beautiful spoon was designed and sold by a jewelry firm called Mermod& Jaccard Co. The spoon measures 5 1/2 inches long and weighs approximately 23 grams(according to my small pocket scale) On the back of the stem it is clearly marked"Sterling" and Mermod& Jaccard Co. Auctioning a nice piece of history from the St Louis World Fair also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. This is the authorized spoon from the fair and is 5 1/2 inches long with the Liberal Arts Building in the bowl. The sterling spoons were among the more expensive souvenirs found at the fair. The stem shows the sequence of events from shooting buffalo. The Louis and Clark Expedition, covered wagons and the train. The reverse of the spoon has a makers mark I cannot identify. Next to the mark, it states COPYRIGHT 1902 BY BEET BALL. It is marked OFFICIAL LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION ST. LOUIS. It is marked STERLING near the top of the handle. Held in Chicago, Illinois in 1893. The bowl has a view of the facade of the Woman's Building, in front of a lake with a gondola. The lower handle is a figure of Columbia, holding aloft a disk embossed with the words"World's Fair 1893 Chicago" The disk is topped by a pair of putti or cherubs, who support a wonderful detailed bust of Mrs. Potter Palmer, wife of the Columbian Exposition chairman. The reverse of the handle continues her image, and also carries her name, Bertha M. Honore Palmer, below the shoulders. This sterling spoon is 5 15/16" long. This is an interesting spoon and one we believe to be quite old. MANCHESTER SILVER was in existence for almost 100 YEARS. We are unsure when the spoon was actually produced however the STATE. WAR, AND NAVY BUILDING took 17 YEARS to be constructed and was finished in 1888. It's style is referred to as FRENCH SECOND EMPIRE. The name was changed to the EISENHOWER EXECUTIVE OFFICE BUILDING(EEOB) sometime in the 1950's. The engraving on the BOWL is in great condition. The back of the spoon is stamped STERLING and has the maker's mark for MANCHESTER SILVER. This listing is for a vintage Sterling Silver Souvenir Spoon from Denver. Colorado. The detailed handle shows the State Seal of Colorado as well as miners and cabins. The bowl has a hand-engraved design of the Capitol Building. Around the building reads: State Capitol DENVEN(obviously, should have been DENVER) There is a spot to the right of the dome, I"dipped" it in jewel luster(a coin cleaner) but it didn't remove it, it would probably require a paste type cleaner to remove it, if you felt it needed to go away. This spoon measures 3 7/8" long and weighs 8.5 grams. On back of the spoon. It is marked"Sterling" This comes from a non-smoking home.
