Wonderful Antique/Vintage Sterling Silver Souvenir Spoon. This spoon is of Mt Hood Portland. Oregon. It is double sided and in the bowl it has Mt Hood 11,932 ft Portland Oregon. On the handle is Rooster Rock Oregon and at the top is the State Capitol. On the back it is hallmarked with a fleur de lis and sterling. It measures almost 3 3/4" long x 3/4" wide and is in good condition. This came from my great aunt's estate, she was a woman of wealth and high stature in her community. She had a great spoon collection, most of them one hundred years old or older that I will be listing here on ebay.

This lovely antique sterling silver souvenir spoon with gold washed bowl from Portland. Oregon is made by Fessenden& Co. of Providence, RI 1858-1922, famous for fancy souvenir spoons. This spoon is 5 3/8" long and weighs 10 grams. On the handle at the top is a beaver surrounded by flowers and pine trees and at the bottom it says OREGON. The bowl is gold washed and says Portland. Here is a beautiful sterling silver spoon from Portland Oregon featuring on the front of the handle very ornate and detailed depiction of state seal with ships. Raising sun, and settler’s wagon pulled by horses, THE UNION banner and plow and stack of wheat, below is detailed depiction of two fish on the surface of sea, then OREGON down the handle. In the gold finished bowl it has most expertly hand engraved image of a wood log building. The writing FORESTRY BLDG, PORTLAND, OREGON 1905. This spoon celebrates the 100th anniversary of Lewis& Clark's exploration of the"water route to the Pacific Ocean" That Fair was held in Portland Oregon in 1905 and known motto was Westward the Course of Empire Takes Its Way. On the back it shows ornate depiction of STATE CAPITOL building. Below webfoot frog with umbrella and flower. We trace our history back to the Lewis and Clark Centennial American Pacific Exposition and Oriental Fair held in Portland. Oregon in 1905. One of the most popular buildings at the fair was the Forestry Building; a giant log cabin built out of huge logs with the bark still attached. The building was so popular that when the fair ended, it was turned over to the state of Oregon and became a Portland landmark until August 17, 1964, when it burned to the ground.

Within the antlers it has a clock showing 11:00 hour and a star above, enamel finish on it and on flowers on the sides of elk’s head, below writing CERVUS ALCES(cervus alces is closely allied to the American moose) the a grail and BPOE down the handle ending with another symbol close to the bowl. Portland Oregon Mt. Hood Sterling Silver Souvenir Spoon w/ Figural Frog J Lesser
For your consideration we are proud to present this Sterling Silver Souvenir Spoon which features a bright cut design of Mount Hood in the bowl. Apparently this mountain is near Portland Oregon and has an elevation of 11932 feet. A fact which is proudly engraved into the bowl of this spoon. Strangely enough, the handle is entirely composed of a whimsical frog dressed in 19th century costume holding an umbrella which reads"OREGON. These frog spoons are quite rare, and this one is the first I have ever seen with the silversmith's name fully engraved"J. LESSER. Other examples have the initials"J.L. or are simply not identified at all. Also there is the obligatory"STERLING" hallmark, which identifies the purity of the silver alloy. Who was this silversmith? Why was he obsessed with frogs dressed in 19th century costumes ... moreholding umbrellas? This spoon raises far more questions than it answers, but we are thankful that we now know the elevation and location of Mt. Hood. We take our ebay responsibilities very seriously.
