There seems no reasonable explanation for it being an"H" No company officers names begin with it and the mark had no prior use by any preexisting ... morecompany that Watson, Newell may have taken over. Rainwater states that the"Mechanics Sterling Co. was the flatware division of Watson. Newell& Co. the name came from WN expanding and moving their manufacturing plant to the"old Mechanics Mill property" in Attleboro in 1894. Up for bid is this Mechanics Sterling Co spoon. We think it may be a souvenir spoon as it has the picture of an alligator on the bowl part of the spoon. And what looks like oranges on the handle, however there is no state indicated. On the back handle there is the letter H in a flag/pennant. Followed by Sterling. There are no dings. Or obvious wear. There is tarnishing.And some blue coloration(as seen in the photos) Because we have no experience or knowledge with silver pieces, we have not attempted any cleaning or polishing.
