Has wonderful enameling on the front of an African American man eating watermelon and says"THE REAL THING, ATLANTA, GA. Antique. Collectible spoon elaborately engraved dated 1911 on the back of the ornate handle. Also, on the back of the handle are 3 initials in script. The initials appear to be W. C. S. On the back handle is also the makers mark of Watson, Newell Co. with the word"sterling" The front of the handle is engraved. In beautiful script, Nashville Tenn. The length of the spoon is approximately 5-7/8" The bowl of the spoon is beautifully hand-painted enamel of a young black male holding a slice of watermelon. The words. The Real Thing" are on the upper edges. Surrounding the enamel painting is silver filigree framing the bowl of the spoon. The colors on the enamel are bright and crisp. The spoon is in excellent condition with no dents or nicks. This is a fabulous addition to any spoon collection.
