Up for bid is the pair of vintage/antique SOLID CORE(very heavy! 5 Foot Tall x 18 Inch WOOD DOORS(heavy. Very dense variety of wood, exact type unknown) with Very Large& Old CAST IRON HARDWARE(beefy ornate hinges. Bolts, washers, ring style twist& pull knob, finely designed escuteon) and SOLID BRASS KEYHOLE/LOCKING MECHANISM(NOTE: key NOT included& lock NOT tested) As seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. Each door features 3 recessed panels with red crosses over blue backgrounds at tops and bottoms and hand painted religious(Catholic) monograms(IHZ" on one door and"XPZ" on other. Both are latin, dating back to the sixth century, meaning Jesus) After hours upon hours of research. I have learned virtually nothing about these doors, nor have I found any like doors.nothing even close! Origin, age and original ... moreuse unknown. They certainly have an authentic old look& feel to them.but not quite 400-500 years old, as the materials& style would suggest. My best guess would be middle 19th to turn of the 20th century.I could be way off, either way. Another possibilitly is that the hinges, hardware, latch/lock, etc. could very well be 200 or more years old, used with replacement wood(again. Just speculation/guessing) Perhaps they are/where movie props? Or part of a TV/Theatrical Play's set? Picked from a Sussex County. N.J. estate. Previous owner told me he had recieved them from a contractor friend approximately 40 years ago and has had them in the breezeway ever since. Inside measurements are 15" long x 7" wide and 7 1/4" high. The cabinet is a darker wood with a secure handle on top and 2 opening top doors with good hinges. The wood insert fits snug inside and slides back and forth with solid style. The cabinet appears very early with great attention to detail. Pair solid wood interior sliding doors frosted glass
Two fantastic solid wood doors removed during a recent renovation. Don’t be fooled: these aren’t the flimsy plastic or vinyl doors you will find at a big box store. Each door is 1 5/8 inches thick; 36 inches wide; and 77 inches high. Glass is frosted for privacy; you can see that the person behind it holding the door is nearly invisible. Great for a bedroom. Bathroom, office, or any place you want privacy but you also want light. They are currently painted white but could be stripped and stained. Because they are real wood I would not recommend them for outside installation. But of course that’s up to you. These are heavy; plan on at least two people to move them. They originally ran from an overhead track. I will leave the wheels in the top of them. But they could also run on a bottom track or even be fixed in place. We have decided to downsize our household. I am now visually impaired and prone to trip over things so an uncluttered home is now a necessity. I love old primitive. Handmade items. If you do too you will flip for this fantastic little cabinet. I believe it was made by a father for his daughter to play with- perhaps to go into a doll house he also made for her. He took scraps of pine wood and paneling and built this piece. It is 5-1/4" long, 4" tall and 2-1/4" deep. The sides and doors appear to be paneling, the rest pine board. It looks well-loved and well-played with and has scratches, scuffs and wear. The upper left corner of the left side has a corner chipped. The rear foot of the right side may look like it was burned but that dark area is actually a knot in the wood. This was my toy box as a little girl. It was custom made for me in 1975 by one of my Father's employees at the Franklin County Prison in Chambersburg. PA. It's solid(stained) wood, but I don't know what kind of wood. It has some weight to it- it's not flimsy. Square on the bottom and angled on top. 2 sliding doors with white knobs. The track the doors slide on is heavy plastic. 2 shelves for books or stuffed animals, etc. 3 feet high, 3 feet wide. It's in such good shape. It's old, so I won't say it's excellent. But it's close. It's been covered in storage for many years to minimize dust or wear. It's extremely sturdy. It could be painted to look more kid friendly. It was the 70's- brown was in! It features some really nice colors with a classic Prairie style design. There is a row of clear textured glass around the edges with multi-colored designs in the upper center and an arrow shape in the lower center. There are green and caramel colored panels with accent pieces that look like reflective gold foil. These windows came from an early 1900's home on the south side of Chicago. It has individual back boards and the glass in the doors is the old wavy type glass. There are 2 storage drawers under the shelf and door area. The shelves are newer and replaced. They are cut from a plywood type material. Nice old piece that displays well. I am not certain of the type of wood? I do not have any means to ship this and want to sell it as a pick up only. Email us after the auction to let us know which of the 13 door(s) you would like. Handsome. Antique, interior doors salvaged from old homes in Northeastern Ohio. Each door is made of either solid pine or solid Douglas Fir and has 4 raised panels on both sides. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much ... moreharder and stronger than young pine. Hardware: The doors are not equipped with any hardware. However. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit any of these doors(check out our eBay store) Doors#2. 8 and 13 had their hardware holes plugged. If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Please email us for a quote. Uneven Height: The heights of Doors#8 and 11 were unevenly cut. The cuts were most likely made to compensate for a settling foundation or a warped floor. We could evenly cut any door. And we could also adjust them to fit your opening- email us for a quote. Swing: Doors#1. 10 and 13 have hinge mortises that span the thickness of the door. As a result, you could install your hinges on either side of the door, allowing you to define its swing. Door#12 was installed using surface-mount. Strap hinges. No mortises were cut into the side of the door, which gives you the opportunity to define the swing of the door. Charming. Antique, interior doors salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Ohio. The doors are made of solid heart pine and each has 5 raised panels. Please note that heart pine is the non-living. Core of a pine tree, and not the soft, outer, living sap-wood. Since it takes 30 years for a pine tree just to develop just 1" of heart stock it is rarer. Harder, more durable, more insect& rot resistant, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and is much more valuable ... morethan the cheap, pine lumber that is commonly found at most hardware stores. On the interior side of the door. There is a chip in the 2nd to top rail; and there is a crack in the bottom of the hinge stile. Otherwise. These doors are in very good shape with only surface scrapes, scratches, small nail holes-minor cosmetic blemishes, which would be removed during the finishing process or covered if painted. Door#2: On the exterior side of the door. The bottom of the hinge stile and the edges of the lock and hinge stiles are chipped. On the interior side of the door. The top of the lock stile, the edge of the lock housing, the top panel and the top of the hinge stile are chipped. Otherwise.
