Hi! Up for auction is this awesome old/vintage Gothic/Tudor style metal mailbox with attached paper holder-in"as-found" condition-while there is some rust. This piece is fully functional. The front door opens, as does the letter slot. There is a hook on the right side with a hole for a lock to slide through. There is no maker's mark that I could find. I have done nothing to this piece save a bit of dusting-there are several layers of paint(black, brown, white, various greens)I'm sure it was originally black with a brass"frame" around the peephole/window in the front. Someone attempted to give it a shabby/cottage style look. There is a factory hole in the back for hanging. There are four raised squares running down each side and some across the top for decoration. It measures(from the top of the box to the end of ... morethe paper holder legs) 15 1/2"the box itself is 10" long; it is 6 3/4" wide and 2 3/4" deep. And I am still listing items from my antique store trip as well as the farm auction sale- there’s loooots of new items this week, and something for everyone! Some times the most simple items end up being my favorites. As is the case with this pair. I have no idea what they came off of- but they were clearly part of something larger at one point in time. They are old. 2-20's-30's is my guess, and they have the BEST original shabby deco green finish(I can see what I think are some peeks of white too, so they may have been white before that) You can see that that have been cut to the size that they are- both exactly the same size of 14 15/16" long and 15/16" diameter(so, just 1/16" shy of 1" ... morewide) Wouldn't they make great towel rods for you? There's so many things that I can think that you could do with them, and you can't buy this patina new! There's lots of shabby wear to it, where you can see down to the dark rich patins of the wood. Scratches, scrapes and general wear to the wood and finish along with some nicks, dings and random teenie holes to the wood. All that being said, I wouldn't change a thing- they are gorgeous, and they are in excellent solid and sturdy condition- totally strong. Each on weighs about 1/4 lb. Love them! Punch outs that were made in the 1940s by Trimz, to be added to furniture, walls, etc… wherever a spot of color is needed" Originally they were pre-pasted and you dipped in water and applied like wallpaper. However, I doubt the paste has survived all these years, so you would need to affix with craft glue. They would be great or for all kinds of arts and crafts or to embellish your vintage or shabby chic projects. Package says they have"hundreds of uses! Vintage Victorian, Shabby Chic Style Garden Antique Planter Cottage Gilded
Wow! So I think these are so pretty. Unique and different but I am not 100% sure what they were originally used for. I have asked a few antique dealers and one man told me that many years ago they hung outside of the old buildings in the French Quarters of New Orleans, and valued them between $100.00-$150.00 for the pair. He said they were used as planters for climbing plants that would attach themselves to the walls and climb. Please if anyone knows them to be something other than that please let me know. They would be wonderful used for that purpose hung in your cottage, Victorian, Shabby Chic Style or any style garden. I think they would be great used outdoors or indoors to hold big chunky candles as well. For sure they would make a great conversation item. The auction is for the pair. They are very ornate, the bowl part looks to be covered ... morein lots of little roses with scrolls throughout. The back plate is also very ornate with what appears to be leaves and other ornate designs. There is two holes to attach the back plate, I do not have the screws to attach, however any ordinary household screws you have will work. I looked these over really well, I do not see any broken pieces, cracks or missing pieces. Please understand these are vintage and therefore no vintage item will ever be perfect although these look perfectly intact to me. Antique Painted Hardwood Finials 7" Architectural Salvage Shabby Chippy Vintage
Listing a great pair of old finials to add to your furniture making project. I believe these previously were part of a headboard to an old 4 poster bed. They are 9 1/2" long overall. The finial section is 7" and the bottom(shaft) is 2 1/2" I believe they are made of rock maple. There is some chippiness and rubs on some parts but absolutely no damage whatsoever to the wood. These could be the finishing touches on an antique bed or even the top of an old kitchen hutch or cupboard. Do you have a use for these wonderful finials?
