Wrought Iron Wheels Cast Iron Hubs Matched Set on Axle Shaft Hit Miss Steampunk
This is a beautifully matched set of old wrought iron wheels. Still spinning freely on their original axle shaft. The shaft looks to be about a 1 inch diam. solid iron bar, about 24 inches long. The wheel diameter is about 18 inches. The hubs are oversized cast iron and still have grease in them. The spokes are wrought iron also. I did not see any obvious signs of distress such as cracks. Welds, breaks, heaviliy corroded etc. so I think we're goo to go on these. I also have a lot of other iron wheels. Some are a matched pair, but I don't recall ever seeing an axle shaft of this size. It's a little unusual, must have been some heavy weight for this size hub and shaft. Would probably work real well on a hit or niss engine or other old farm display. The rims have a slight crown to them- they roll very easily. Could also be used for ... morea set of steering wheels, since the geometry of the curved iron wheel rim will allow easy turning. John Deere 1.5 HP hit and miss antique engine on original cart
Up for sale is a 1928 John Deere 1.5 hp"E" hit and miss engine on original John Deere trucks(cart) This is an older restoration I did in the last 1970s. It ran fine as of roughly 5 years ago but has been sitting in my garage since then. The magneto was rebuilt in the early 1980s. The end cap and rotor ends were replaced using NOS(new old stock) John Deere parts- those are the parts that commonly"rot" on these. Anyone who knows antique engines and magnetos would probably get the magnet recharged. The cart is original John Deere- at some point before I bought it. The rear axle casting had broken was welded by a past owner. Not very neat but it's been strong. The photos show the rear axle casting having been welded. The muffler does not have the cast"screen" with the holes in it. The muffler is missing the guts ... moreand has been that way since I bought it in the 70s. The fuel tank has been patched using an old oil can tin soldered to the bottom of the tank. Since it has been sitting for a few years I expect the check valve in the tank is gummed up from sitting. There is a cracked spoke on the crank-side flywheel. I show the crack in the photos. Although I've run it this way since day one- I highly recommend the new owner replace that flywheel. I can point you to someone who can furnish a good flywheel for it- they are not difficult to change. As I always drained the blocks of all water when done with a show the block has no splits or cracks. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. ~ Will help load onto trailer or into pickup.
