This great looking old pulley was a barn find from an old farm estate in Southern Iowa and is in excellent condition. Overall the pulley measures 14 inches tall and 7 ½ by 4 ½ inches wide. The wooden wheel is 7 ½ inches in diameter and turns easily. Antique Iron Dolphin Serpent Downspout. Rare Unique indoor / outdoor decor!
This rare find was discovered at an estate sale in Florida. The owner had lived and owned buildings in Savannah. Georgia for many years. I am guessing this is where the downspout originated. It is iron, painted black. I have no estimation on the age, maker, etc. There is no marking or indication anywhere to tell me this. 36.5" long(bottom of mouth to top of cat tail) about 9" wide. And around 3.5" deep(to the highest point of the face. It weighs 22.8 lbs. The mouth is open. Which allowed for water to flow out, presumably from a building. I had it displayed in my study for a number of years, and it was commented on numerously. A friend that dabbled in antiques suggested that I list it on ebay, due to the rarity and uniqueness. I have no idea what this is really, it looks like it might have been a piece of wood off the side of a mantle but there are no nail holes, there is a hanger on the upper backside as well as a wire hanger on the very top. The wood is straight and appears to be of walnut in type, the birds and tree are well carved with little or no damage what so ever(there is some scuffing and chipping to the paint though) the birds and trees have very much the appearance that they are carved right out of the piece of wood itself. They have some bubbles in the glass& one is more of a yellowish color than the other. 3 glass knobs-a tiny one. Just 1" long with some minor chipping on the bottom, a slightly larger one-1 1/2" long with a brass bottom part, shaped like a flower& no chips. The largest knob-1 1/2" long X 2" top dia. with no'connecting' part or holder-just glass& no chips. The last 3 pieces are from an old lamp or chandelier and they all have some minor chipping ... moreon their ends. 1 piece is 3 1/2" long. The other 2 are 1 5/8" long X 7/8" thick and with minor chipping at their centers. All 3 of these chandelier pieces have a hole running through their centers. Classic New Orleans made and New Orleans found cast iron architectural panels from balcony railing. These balustrades are cast in one of the most famous and beautiful patterns. The oak leaf and acorn pattern. They may still be seen throughout the Garden District, FQ and other areas of town with pre-1900 homes. Although fabrications are still made today(just search ebay for a few dozen options) genuine period 19th century pieces are scarce in single decorative pieces. These are authentic period pieces dating to circa 1860-80 and from a New Orleans Garden District home. Measuring each about 28 inches high and about 11.5 inches at the widest point. I've had these for at least five years and have yet to get around to doing anything with them. Time for them to go to a new home. They are iron wall or fence decorations shaped like crossed fleur de lis. They measure about 8 1/2" across and are over 1/2" thick. There's a hole in the center so they can be bolted to a wall or whatever. The backs each have matching impressed designs but they are too faint to make out. I'm assuming they are manufacturer's markings. Black paint is chipped showing white paint underneath. Backsides have a few very small spots of light surface rust but it is very minor.
