VINTAGE TEN STEP CAST IRON SPIRAL STAIRCASE WITH WOOD TREADS. C. EARLY 20th CENTURY This beautiful spiral staircase is American and dates to the early 20th century. Or possibly earlier. It most likely came from a boat or a building where space was at a premium and access between level/floors had to be kept to a minimum. The staircase os made of cast iron and has ten steps with wood treads. In addition to the center pole, there are ten vertical supports each with a gilt metal ball finial. The staircase measures overall 85-1/2"h with a maximum diameter of 32-1/4" Each step measures 16-1/4"w with an outside depth of 9-1/4" tapering to an inside depth of 1-1/8" The piece can still be used for its originally intended purpose. Alternatively, it would make a great display piece to hold plants, collectibles or other decorative ... morepieces. I believe this heavy cast iron piece is all original including the brass sprinkler head. Measures approximately 13.5 inches in height. Some original paint remains but most is gone-condition of the piece is very good with a nice even patina. Original embossed manufacturer's mark present but I do not know what it is. Original Antique Victorian Cast Iron Wall Sconce Oil Lamp Holder Mounted On Wood
Original Antique Victorian Iron Wall Sconce From Whitechapel. London Taken from a building renovation in the late 1990s and possibly the only one of its kind left from the area Description: Hello. This is an original antique Victorian wall sconce taken from Whitechapel, London, in the late 1990s. The item was on the ground floor of a building on New Road that was undergoing renovation from residential to commercial property(the street although once home to many in Victorian London now has many takeaways. Halal restaurants and cafes) The tenant was having a shop sign fitted to the front and when asked if the sconce could be removed from a covered side courtyard type entrance he happily agreed. The person who removed the sconce was the shop sign fitter. And fully aware of the significance of the item, kept it in his garage where it has remained ... moresince. There are no sconces left on buildings in Whitechapel- most having been damaged or thrown away- and it is very rare to find an original example of one from this area of London. Whitechapel is after all. The most notorious part of London having been the since of the Jack the Ripper murders. Although the sconce was retrieved from Whitechapel, the building's tenant did not know the history of the item such as how long it had been on the building, or when it was put there. In any case. Thankfully the sconce was rescued and persevered. It could now make an excellent collectors piece, or garden decoration for a large candle or hanging basket. Condition: The sconce has been repaired at the base part of the hinge. Look at the pictures and you will see a small patch of light metal that has been welded on to join together the two parts that had suffered a crack. The metal is pretty rusted and the oak wood mount is worn in places. It still functions and moves freely on the hinge. Shipping: All items are dispatched the next working day after payment.
