Wrought iron railing! We can't sell you the Brooklyn bridge. But we can at least sell you the fence from it.or at least the fence that is just like the stuff on the Brooklyn Bridge ramp! This is unusual wrought iron stair railing. It is from the late 1800's. It is made up of heavy round stock and unusual ornate castings on each end(top and bottom) some sections have very pointing spikes on the top. Others have the tops cut off or worn off. probably for safety) The sections can be put together to make a railing or they can be used individually as window gaurds. The condition of the iron is good. Antique Cast Iron Window Grate Coal Chute Cross Architectural Salvage Harrisburg
Antique cast iron window grate. Salvaged from an old farmhouse in Harrisburg PA. It was used in the basement as a coal chute since it swings open. It has a nice crisscross design and a cross in the center and is very heavy. It has a handle on one end. The back side opposite of the handle has two holes for hinging it. The grate measures just over 11-5/8 inches wide and is 18-3/4 inches tall without the handle. Including the handle it is 20-1/2 inches tall. The sides are 7/8 inches thick. This grate does show some signs of age and wear since it is over 100 years old. It has some surface rust. Please view the pictures for details. Please let me know if you have any questions. These were removed from a fence that was originally around the Brazilian Embassy in Washington D.C. They are estimated to be around 50 years old- AT LEAST. Gorgeous scroll. Because they are Cast Iron- they cannot be welded however they have 6 pre drilled holes and brass screws still intact from where we cut them off the fence. They measure 31.5" x 6.5" They are gorgeous and a piece of history. The toppers from this same fence are also in my listings. Please take a look. HISTORICAL FIND! ESTATE FRESH! From the renovation of the Famous Cable Building in NYC come these VERY old Victorian Era Ornamental gates. Possibly from the roof or windows or fire escape. These came from an estate in CT where the old gentleman was the super at the time of this renovation. with intent to use them after 40 years he is letting them go. MORE INFO: 611-621 Broadway. On the North West corner of Houston Street, facing Houston Street to Mercer Street was designed by the famous McKim, Mead and White firm in 1892. The building is a 9 story 200' by 100' 129' tall structure which was the power plant for the Metropolitan Street Railway Co. Metropolitan Traction Co. Cable car) line on Broadway. Formerly the site of St Thomas Church which burned down in 1851. Was rebuilt and then demolished circa 1890. I have a copy of an 1894 ... moreScribners magazine article on this railway and a Scientific American issue from 1897. With photos and line cuts. I also have several stereo view cards I scanned. One from 1894 and I have one from before the Cable Building was built- St Thomas Church can just about be made out in the distance- both taken from a block South on Broadway at the Metropolitan Hotel. Thus far I have not found one photo or even one article about the actual construction of the BUILDING and I find that very unusual given it was a McKim. Mead and White design, it was a main power plant for a then very new mode of transportation, and the building itself had to have it's foundations dug to an unusual depth- 40 feet in order to isolate the heavy vibrating machinery from the office building itself. It had(4) 1.000 Horse Power steam engines and 18 boilers in the basement, the engines had a 32 foot diameter driving drum and was the largest steam powered plant of it's kind. There are 16 available Can be sold in one lot or will break up according to size requirements. Needs, and/or wants! Some do have the ornate part under the first bar missing. some more than others. I love these and am in the process of buying a 1908 gothic hand cut sandstone church and wanted these for the windows. But they would have to be cut and refitted, so I have decided to use reproduction ones that fit. I have a total of 10 available if not sold. Stop by my store and browse over 400 listings. This listing is for ONE window guard as shown. Heavy,heavy they look even greater in person. Pick up only. Measure 66" tall. 31" on the outside where they would be screwed into frame. The inside area is 29-1/4" 2" depth. These are guards that are placed on the outside of the window. You can not remove them from the inside for a quick escape.

There are 7 vertical bars that are curled at the top and end with a twist at the bottom. There is twisted iron scrollwork throughout. Each one has a hasp at one end. They are very attractive and in very good condition with lots of chippy green paint. There is surface rust and dings commensurate with age and use. Black wrought iron antique Victorian style window guards or gates You are invited to bid on two lovely antique style iron window gates or guards. Please note that these are two of the same gates. They both swing from the left side. They could be used as a pair by removing the flower medallion and replacing it on the outside of the gate. I believe welding would be necessary to do that. They are in very good condition. I don't believe they have been used. I did notice that one gate has two minor welds which are lose but nothing in danger of falling apart. Buyers can use these for garden art. Wall art, headboards, pot racks, and of course, window gates. EACH ONE MEASURES: 24" Wide 22" height of ironwork 25" High outside post. Each gate has a scrollwork crest across the top and scrollwork throughout. There is a heavy cast iron ... moreflower medallion in the center of each.
