Up for sale here is a vintage. Antique, circa 1870s to 1880s Sevres or Sevres style Porcelain Urn or bowl with Bronze mounts. The piece is hand painted on both sides one side with a landscape and the other side with a Neo Classic Old Master style work with woman and Putti or Cherub. The piece measures about 12 1/2 inches wide from handle to handle by 6 3/8 inches deep by 9 1/2 inches high. The artist who painted the design is Lucot and it is signed on the work of the Woman and Cherub. We did not see a mark for the Sevres factory but we also did not inspect the piece out of its mounts either. For condition. There is faint crazing or crackle to the glazes' finish from firing of the piece and it may look almost as it did when it was first fired. The bowl is slightly off center from the stand. There is some faint handling wear to the finish ... moreon the handles from being picked up over the years but again very minor. There are no breaks or repairs to the porcelain and the gold finish is intact throughout. While this work is not marked Sevres we found some auction results for marked Sevres pieces that had Lucot as the artist so we are thinking Lucot was a decorator for the Sevres factory. This piece would make a great centerpiece for any luxurious table setting and would probably have your guests asking all kinds of questions about it. French Sevres Type Cobalt Lidded Box Urn, Artist Signed HP Scenes Raised Gold
SUPERB SEVRES STYLE FRENCH COVERED COMPOTE WITH ARTIST-SIGNED PAINTINGS IN RESERVE ON COBALT LID This is a fabulous antique French Sevres porcelain covered box or urn with bronze ormolu mounts and handles supporting a rich cobalt porcelain covered dish. The lid is hand painted and artist-signed A. Bost on one scene of a courting couple. On the other side is a landscape scene with a cottage by the water. The interior of the bowl is also hand painted with pretty flowers. The piece is bolted to a metal base and has a bronze finial and acanthus leaf connector between the bowl and its foot. It is 11" in height with the lid in place and measures about 10-1/4" from handle to handle. The entire piece is decorated with raised gold swags. The lid has a Sevres mark with the letter D inside and S. below. If my references are correct. The single ... moreD indicates the piece was made pre-1800, but I think it later than that, probably very early 19th century. Because of the metal base, any marks existing on the pedestal base are not visible. The piece has generalized crazing consistent with its age. There is evidence of a small 1" tight crack to the side of the lid, which I have photographed. There is also a very shallow chip to the lower rim of the lid, really just scraping the outer layer of paint. I didn't have room in the listing for a photo of this. The covered urn measures 14 ½ inches or 36.8 cm high. The urn has a vibrant magenta pink glaze with a hand enhanced scene at the front featuring a courting couple in an outside setting. Around the cartouche of the couple are heavy applied gold highlights. The handles of the urn extend from the shoulders to the sides of the body. The urn has the cover with bronze pine cone finial.
