HUGE! Well Preserved Ancient Painted Earthenware(Terra Cotta) Painted Censer Pot in the Style of Neolithic China BC2000. Possibly an 18th or 19th Century Revival Imitative. CLASSIFICATION: Neolithic Painted Earthenware Tripod Pot. ATTRIBUTION: In the Style of Pre-Dynastic Ancient China. About 2,000 B.C. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 249 millimeters(10 inches) Diameter: 256 millimeters(10 1/4 inches) at bowl; 174 millimeters(7 inches) at top lip. Notes: Artificial foliage shown is available upon request. CONDITION: Very good. Two of three legs reattached. One medium sized rim chip reattached. Assorted abrasions. And scuffs consistent with primitive hand construction and wear due to ancient usage and then burial since ancient times. As well there are the normal blemishes(warts, dimples, pimples and pits) one expects with ancient hand crafted earthenware ... morevessels. DETAIL: A splendid. Very, very large and well preserved earthenware tripod censer/pot jarostensibly from the late third or early second millennium B.C. It’s a very large piece, nearly the size of a basketball. As you can see, when produced it featured painted circumferential accent lines– of which there are clear, easily discernible, and substantial pigment remnants, though they are especially evident from the shoulder upwards. The vessel is(remarkably enough) complete with three stubby legs. Though it may be referred to at its simplest as a legged“pot” it is quite likely that it was intended as a censer. This type of vessel was generally used for smoldering twigs of aromatic woods, a primitive form of“incense” They were oftentimes funerary items, entombed(presumably still emitting fragrant plumes of aromatic smoke) with the deceased. What’s really remarkable is that it is presumably about 4,000 years old and is still by and large intact. You can imagine that after being unearthed after centuries of burial. ORNATE MEISSEN-STYLE COVERED URNS Click on the thumbnails to view more photos An amazing and rather massive pair pair of mid-19th century French porcelain 19" covered mantle urns. Made by M.S. Claus, France. They are fully hand painted and in the Meissen style, and both are extravagantly festooned with hand-formed and applied flowers and leaves. Each is topped with a similarly decorated lid, topped with a figure of a child. The colours are bright and vivid and they have the crossed swords mark for Claus and a 1777 pattern number. Each has had some restoration- the child with the umbrella finial has a repaired and repainted base and the lid has a large firing crack(on the interior edge and not visible when on display) It also has some gold wear to the lid's rim, and the base has a large ... morearea of restoration and painting to the upper rim and a firing crack to the outer shoulder. The other urn's lid has a similar interior firing crack, and the base has a similar repair to its rim as well(which also has a crack on the repaired area) Each urn has some minor expected chipping and losses to the flowers. This pair is in very good/reasonable condition with a good appearance, and they could be completely restored if desired. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. The background color is cobalt blue which is the most desirable color of this kind of Urns made in the mid to late 19th Century in France. They measure 40 inches high and about 10 inches wide. Parian Urns White - Gold Gilt - Set of Two - HUGE
Featured in this auction is a magnificent pair of urns made in biscuit or Parian porcelain. Both urns are marked at the bottom and are estimated to have been produced in the late 9 th Century. One of the urns has one of the faces broken and glued back(this is a clean break and can be easily restored) both urns have some minor chips at the covers(one had the top broken and glued back– again a clean break) Apart from the above. Lid has a couple of hairlines on the inner rim, the knob has been glued on and there is staining. The urn has a chip to the very top riim and a hairline coming from it about 3 inches lopng, on the inside ther is some soiling and what looks like a dark crack but it is not visible on the outside and feels very smooth. Absolutely stunning set of Sevres style porcelain. A set consisting of 2 urns and clock, destined to be used as a mantle piece. It shows a romancing couple in the middle ages. The vases and clock are made of porcelain and are gold-plated. They are completely made and painted by hand! They are about 70 years old and made in Florence. Italy. Each vase is signed on the back with ACF Sevres Decor. Fait a la main, and the signature of the maker can be found inside the clock( see pictures) The craftmanship is visible. This set is absolutely gorgeous! They are absolutely beautiful. There are some minor signs of use. But they are so small I could not get them clear on the picture. I have only discovered 2, one on the top back of one urn where a little piece of gold is missing, and one on feet of one urn, where also some gold is missing. But as I ... moresaid. Is is that small I couldn't photograph it and you will see it is not visible on the pictures here, which is because they are so small. This means the urns and clock are in very good condition considering its age. The clock is still running, the key to wind it is also still present. The vases are very big and heavy. This is a very large, PHENOMENAL Jacob Petit Covered Urn or Vase, c.1840. ... moreThis incredible piece of French porcelain features 2 DIFFERENT hand painted bucolic scenes of ancient castles, trees, green lawns and grazing sheep. The paintings are finely rendered and are then surrounded the 3-dimensional applied porcelain flowers that Petit is most known for. There is huge variety of blossoms on this vase including a rose, dahlias, foxgloves, morning glories, and many more. For it's age and the quantity of flowers, the body of the vase is in amazing condition with just a few minor chips. The fitted lid has holes, meant to vent, so this may have been filled with potpourri. The'handle' for the lid is a large dahlia with stem and 3 large leaves. The lid itself has no damage, though there are a few small flowers and a leaf missing on the exterior.normal for age as the lid being handled much more frequently than the body. Compared to the few comparable pieces, it is in far better condition than most, I would say! It is a BIG piece at about 17" tall and the perimeters, handles, and base are decorated with elegant gilt edging. One handle must've come off and was cleanly reglued, see photos. Huge Antique Earthenware Incense Urn w/ Lid European Origins Hand Painted & Old!
How awesome is this! This listing is for an old incense urn that is in exceptional condition. The gold gilt is great. It is a truly amazing piece of earthenware/ceramic. This beauty has been in my personal collection for over ten yrs. I personally have never used it for it's purpose but as you can see in the last three photo's that is exactly the intention. This piece has been hand pierced and hand painted. I may be wrong. But most of the large incense urns that I've seen are oriental in origin. I do not believe this is. I really think this has European origin. It so reminds me of Pointon(English) Even Bohemian heritage? I do own a large Amphora incense, so this is a possibility. Wahliss? We all know those ink stamps wear off at times. There is an impressed number of 1135 on the base but no other markings to identify factory. ... moreThe urn is 15 1/2" in height including the lid. The lid has a magnificent artichoke finial. The flowers are all outlined with gold relief. There are bands of a molded flourish design in relief around the neck and base, all in gold gilt. This is a heavy and substantial piece weighing in at over 5 lbs on it's own. Has a 9" diameter body. The mouth of the piece is just under 4 1/4" in diameter. I have taken pics of the interior to show the years of use. There is a substantial amount of resin build-up on the inside of the lid and I have provided a close up of such. This could be removed if desired, I chose to leave it in it's acquired state. As you can see, there is a hairline crack of the base. I have used a flashlight to view from the interior and it is not visible. The thickness of the base of this piece I'm sure has contributed greatly to it's soundness. There is some wear to the gold gilt of the finial, but other than that all gold is in amazing condition. Please take size and weight into consideration for the shipping costs. We are pleased to offer this Antique Cobalt Blue Gold Victoria Porcelain Austria Vase/Urn. Measures: 16 7/8” inches in height. 10 5/8” inches in wide(handle to handle) 4 ¼” inches in diameter(opening) The urn is in very nice condition with no cracks or crazing. It has one chip on base(see pictures) Please see picture for a better description of the item. The vase features a scalloped mouth with elaborate scrolled gilded double handles and scrolled open details flanking at the bottom. The vase/urn is well done in the Art Nouveau or jugendstil style. The portraits are a polychrome print(not hand painted) It has portrait Louis XIV bestowed the title of Duke to d'Antin. On one other side there is portrait of Madame de Montespan. Became the second of three mistresses to Louis XIV, King of France. She bore the King seven children. Despite ... morethe fact she remained married to her husband. Her only legitimate son, born in 1665 as Louis-Antoine de Pardaillan de Gondrin, the Marquis d'Antin, who eventually became a favorites of the Court of Louis XIV at Versailles. Made by the Porcelain Factory Victoria. Carlsbad, Austria, and the makers mark dates this piece to have been made between 1891-1918. Victoria Schmidt& Co began at Lazarus& Rosenfeld. Ltd in 1883 who sold to Franz Schmidt two years later. The factory was located in Altrohlau, Bohemia, which was then part of Austria. The same town today is called Stará Role, and the country is now the Czech Republic. It is located on the outskirts of Karlovy Vary(Carlsbad) about 80 miles due west of Prague. Up for bid is an amazing. HUGE, HEAVY piece from John Haddock and Sons Royal Vitreous. Exquisite and produced in England this is a double handled urn that was found in my grandmother's things. I have no idea of its age, but my grandmother was 103 when she passed away. It appears that there may have been a top to the piece, but I was unable to locate it.
