Great piece of architectual salvage. Cast iron street light pole finial.Came off a fluted or octagon pole. Measures 4 3/8 x 8" tall. Outside dimensions. Pole was about 3 1/2" across flats. Measures about 3 7/8" inside flats. Screws were used to hold to pole. Use your imagination, these would look great as bookends, doorstops, or decoration. There are 3 large(one broken) that are 12.5 inches tall by 5 wide. There are 14 matching that are 5.75 tall by 1.75 wide. There are other pieces included. Your bid buys the lot. Overall. The detail is all surprising intact. Sandblasting will make this piece look amazing. Any rust is surface rust. Solid and Heavy! This auction is for 3 sections of fence. One section is 7 foot long and 30" high The middle arbor/gateway section is 6 feet 8 inches The third section is 7 foot 7 inches long and 30" high In all approximately 21 feet. This can be constructed in several configurations. In the first picture I posted it shows the arbor/gateway in the middle of the two straight railings. Antique Fancy 1890 Buckeye Cast Iron Fence Gate w Crest Serpents Axes+More NR
I am very pleased to bring you the first of two great cast iron gates that recently came out of the same estate in Western New York that is to me a piece of true Americana and the maker has a great history. Before I start about the gate I just want to share a little background on the maker which was the Buckeye Co of Springfield Ohio. THis was a progressive state of the art facility in the last quarter of the 19th century that made all kinds of wonderful things that included Buckeye pressure water pumps. State of the art farm implements and Iron Turbine Wind Engines plus of course fencing. It was origianlly called Mast, Foos, Co and they were great makers of anything cast iron that would improve life in America and on the farm. So when I say its a piece of Americana.I will let you do some research and there is a lil background on the maker ... moreand company. Now the fence is in excellent condition for age and has a fancy crest which includes a double serpent motiff accented by Midevil axes and fancy scroll work. The gate has its original gate release and even has its original brass handle which has a super patina from age. In addition there is the gate post rod that has the spear finial so you can hang on your own pole or post and it will be cohesive and be the same. If you look the rods are not bent and I can find no breaks, repairs or cracks in any of the body or gate itself. I do like the rounded corners and it gives it a sense of design from The Victorrian period which it came from. Please look at all the pictures and know I am listing another gate along with post and more unique items here at the place where more people are saying they had a great antique-experience!
