I purchased this altar fragments years ago in an antique shop where my mother used to live. It is a centuries old and still has the original paint in it. The carving ~artwork probably that of a Spanish conquistador and it has that lovely combination colors. It must have been part of an altar possibly the top part. The fragment piece measure 22"x8.5" and 1" thick heavy solid wood. A small very minor amount of chipping on the artwork located on the top~sides. The colors are orange. Browns, light turquoise, gold, black,reds and a hint of pink lavender. There seems to be some marking right in the bottom but can't make any~reading of it. Recently had it appraised at the McClung Museum of Natural History at University of Tennessee Knoxville. It is confirm to be a century old piece. ARCHITECTURAL ANTIQUE : CARVED OAK TRIM FRAGMENT
HAND CARVED OAK TRIM FRAGMENT: Very nicely carved section of oak casing trim. The oak has the darkened original varnish/stain finish at one end of the piece. And a cleaned medium oak finish at the other end. This was done to illustrate the darkened state of finish that the piece was found in, and to contrast it with a more natural finish. The thick piece of oak has been hand carved in an acanthus leaf design, with a ball and reed bottom banding. Each end has a 45 degree mitered cut. The oak trim has been mounted on a hand carved white marble fragment with a carved acanthus leaf relief. The combination of the marble base and oak trim resulted in an interesting composition of hand carved architectural art. The oak casing trim is 21 3/4" long x 4 1/2" high x 2 1/4" thick. The marble fragment base is 12" long x 6" high ... morex 2 1/2" thick. The overall mounted height is 7 1/2" weight is 10 1/2 lbs. Please note that item was photographed under studio lighting. Early Ottoman Empire / Architectural Fragment Wood Box
Up for auction is an antique 15th-16th century(1400's to 1500's) architectural fragment that was made into a slide open box. When you slide open its top. It reveals three compartments that were carved into the wood. The outer dimensions of the box measure 10.6 inches in length, 5.4 inches in depth, and 2.4 inches in height. I had the box appraised online. As I had no idea of its value or where it came from, and only knew from the second I picked this up that it was genuinely very, very old and could not be a modern reproduction. It would have taken just far too much time, labor and skilled workmanship in carving/aging it to even bother given its value that it could be sold for. Anyway, the expert verdict was that it dates back to the 15th- 16th century under the early Ottoman Empire, and probably comes from the Levant, although Egypt ... morewas also considered as a possibility. Given its age, I was surprised that it wasn't valued higher than it was, but as antiques and collectibles do fluctuate in value and in demand over time, that can certainly change and you just never know. Vintage Wooden Fleur-de-lys Finial Architectural Fragment
This is a terrific antique architectural fragment. About 6.75 inches tall by 5 inches at the widest part. The shape is a stylized fleur-de-lys. There is one rough spot on the bottom edge. The rest of the piece has an aged, distressed, but not rough patina. This is from my own personal collection, I have had it about 15 or so years and run a nonsmoking household. THIS IS INCREDIBLE AND IS AN OLD CAST METAL ARCHITECTURAL FRAGMENT FROM AN OLD CROSS. The old architectural pieces like this add an awesome look to any decor. This is an older heavy salvaged piece from France and of good quality with fabulous detailing. It has a metal piece at the back that allows it to lie down. Yet raise up about 2 1/2" at the top, as I show. If you wanted to hang it, you could add a wire to this piece, but it wouldn't lie flat. You can see where it was broken off a larger piece at the bottom. It has the original old black paint that is chippy. Peely, crackly, with some rust and with paint loss for a perfect patina. There are so many possibilities on how to display this, ... moreand no matter what you decide, it will look incredible!
