Stunning estate sale find! The previous owner was in his 90s and had traveled all over the world. For your consideration. We have this tall vintage wood carved drum from Haiti. Upon doing a little research. I found out a few things: drums like this were made in West Africa and SHIPPED to Haiti back in the 1940s and 50s or so(my friend who lived in Haiti told me this) timeframe/ age of drum is just a guess these types of drums are very rare and collectible and typically go for about $300 here on eBay and MUCH more on 1stdibs most likely carved from one piece of palm tree trunk The measurements are about 30 inches tall. And the diameter of the top of the drum is about 8 inches. The drum is hollow. If you flip it upside down, it is an open circle. The design is lovely: it spells out"Haiti" and there is a house/ hut and a palm tree. ... moreThe top is I believe cow hide. Looks like there are supposed to be 5 wood sticks around the top. But there are only 2. One is fixed, and the other is removeable to play the drum with. This does not affect the usage of the drum, the leather top is on there very tight. I did not do any cleaning or repairs. Item is in"as found" condition. No cracks or splits in wood that I can see. Nice vintage shape! Sounds great when you play it! Also. This stunning lot contains notes from the above mentioned countries. So have a close look at the pictures please. The French West Africa note is circulated but still in nice shape as is the note from Nigeria. Last book I have lists the French West Africa note for $27.50 in VF grade. This is a very colorful and beautiful note from 1948. The Nigerian note is likewise circulated but not heavily. It has only slightly rounded corners, a couple folds and light soiling yet retains a lot of crispness still. The 2 modern Egyptian notes have not been circulated in my opinion. They are denominated in 25 and 50 Piastres. I will ship this lot for a flat $3.00 or just $1.00 extra if combined with any number other paper money lots. Any questions please ask. Niger is country where antiquities including dinosaur skeletons and evidence of ancient civilizations(4,000BC) have been found under the desert sand. The bead is made of white quartz and would have been very beautiful when new, sparkling in the desert sun. It is also the same shape as pendant beads traditionally used all over west Africa today.
