Vintage French Archeological Map of Egyptian Site Tomb of Amenhotep son of Hapou
This is a very interesting vintage map of an Egyptian archeological site. The tomb of Amenhotep son of Hapou. It appears to be a lithographic print with what looks like hand printed coloring overlaying the drawing and text. It is on thick paper a bit yellowed with age. Measuring 37.5” x 25.5” The writing is in French and it is dated March 23 1935. There was an artist with this team, a Clément Robichon. Who was a French archeologist who specialized in drawing and architecture. This map was probably rendered by him, though it’s not signed. If you Google“Amenhotep son of Hapou” and“Davidovits” you should easily find the site of a French author who thinks Amenhotep was the biblical Joseph. I won’t comment on it. Except to say I doubt most Egyptologists would agree, so unless you do I wouldn’t consider this map as Judaica. But the story should ... morebe of interest to people, as a modern cultural phenomena. The legend in French says Tableau Chronologique. In chronological order it lists the sections with different colorings, as follows: Older than Thutmoses Thutmoses II Thutmoses III Amenophis III Amenhotep son of Hapou Anonymous Temple North Posterior To Anonymous temple Posterior to Ramses II Lower Epic It shows the magnetic north and is dated 23 Mar 1935. There are many small labels of sections. Such as a storehouse constructed in 1935, and holes later than the temple for the fabrication of crude bricks. This map. As you can see in the photos, is curling and has creases and tears around the edges. Most of these could probably be cut down, it looks like only one crease and tear would show in a frame. The edges are lined with scotch tape and this was undoubtedly once mounted on a wall. It will be shipped rolled up in a tube. Amenhotep Son of Hapou was an architect and doctor. This is a large 1903 Crams map of Egypt and Abyssina. It measures 14 1/2 X 22 inches. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It may have a few handling flaws as to be expected in a map this age and large. Please enlarge upper scan for condition of map. Map was taken from the Cram's Modern Atlas which is near impossible to obtain. We take special care in shipping these maps as there are no replacements. Size/ Format In millimetres(and inches) Sheet: 364 x 262(14¼" X 10 ¼" Margins range from 14mm- 26mm(½" 1" The maps are all printed on one integral sheet with a fold in the center. This fold becomes nearly invisible when the map is laid flat. If the map is framed. The fold becomes completely invisible unless inspected very closely. Condition The maps are in very good condition. The colors are bright and there is almost no age-toning. There is an occasional spot or unobtrusive mark in the margins ... moreof a few of the maps. The scanned images are un-edited(except for size) and are of the actual map you will receive. I've noticed that some of the scans look a little blurry or grainy. This is caused by clumsy scanner settings. The maps are very clear with crisp text.

This is a large 1929 Map of Africa. It measures 28 X 20 inches. A search of worldcat.org which lists all holdings in the worlds libraries. Museums, historical societies and even a few map dealers shows that no other copy of this 1929 Rand McNally Commercial atlas exists anywhere. We have searched other sites and come up with zero. Paper drives during World War II, took many library and reference works. Add this to the fact that the majority of these atlases were leased by Rand McNally and were returned at the end of the year. This appears to have been the only copy that survived. This map is wax engraved and was issued as part of the Rand McNally Commercial Atlas. To be used by shippers and businesses to get their goods to customers and markets. The Rand McNally Commercial Atlas was updated yearly. This map is genuine.
