Fante Standing Female Figure Ghana African Art SALE Was $210
Title, Fante Standing Female Figure Ghana African Type of Object, Female Figure, Country of Origin, Ghana, People, Fante, Materials, Wood. Pigment, Approximate Age, Second half 20th Century, Dimensions, 16.25 Inches H. x 3 inches W. Overall Condition, Good Damage/Repair, general wear, Additional Information: A Fante standing female figure holding her breast in one hand and her belly with the other hand. This figure shares certain stylistic traits with sculptures from other Akan peoples such as the Asante and the Bono. Her elaborate hairstyle has multiple fine braids aranged in a cap shape. Narrow T-shaped nose and a very small chiseled mouth almost ... moreindistinguishable at the end of the chin and her hair style broken into a number of ridges all mark Baule influences however her stance and slightly elongated and ringed neck indicate Fante traits. The surface tells of extended use serving Fante ritual traditions. Such figures are a representation of ancestor or queen mother. Recommended Reading: Mato. With most of the villages situated on cliffs to the north and the east. According to Dogon oral tradition, the tribe settled in this area between the 14th and the 15th centuries, after escaping from the Mande kingdom. Legend has it that a snake led them to the cliff at the southern end of the plateau, where they overwhelmed and usurped the local Tellem and Niongom populations. The Dogon livelihood is based on agriculture concentrated in fields at the edge of the cliff, where water is scarce, but enough for occasional irrigation. Dogon social and religious organizations are closely interlinked and out of these arose four principal cults which accounts for the richness and diversity of Dogon culture. Dogon art is extremely versatile, although common stylistic characteristics- such as a tendency towards stylization- are apparent on the statues. Dogon figures are predominantly associated with the ancestor cult. They are carved either for personal or family use or, if they commemorate the foundation of a community, are worshipped by the village. The artistic influence of Niongom and Tellem traditions on Dogon statues is apparent. The Niongo

This is a lightweight charming bracelet measuring 3 1/4"across. 2 3/4" center opening, 1/2" thick. It is hollow so very easy to wear. Nice primitive stamping and fabrication. Delightful! Less than five years old. No damage. African. Handmade.
African Tribal Currency Bracelet Ethnographic Art, Bronze Jewelry AWESOM! 002
This extraordinary bracelet made from bronze using the old lost wax casting of copper and tin alloy is thought to be from the 20th century conservatively. The condition is exceptional. No damage or repair shows it was clearly a favored old piece remaining unchanged from the time of it's acquisition in the 1940's. Pieces such as this served as currency but also as a show of wealth. The minute intricate detail of this piece is most remarkable! This is certainly worthy of being noted as a collectors piece. The measurements are 4" across and 1.5" in height or width. The inside measurement is 2.5" There are 10 photos. To see them all click on the blue arrow at the end of the row of small photos. Original signed painting, sourced in Sudan, older Sudanese/North African Art
This 32 inch x 24 inch painting is of a woman leaning on the stump of a tree. It is signed in the lower right corner and is one of two paintings that we purchased in Omdurman. Sudan. Based on the condition and subject matter, such paintings would seem to be from the early 1970s at the latest when Khartoum was still a party destination for many Europeans. My understanding is that modern Sudan would frown upon such subject matter and probably not allow such to be displayed publicly. I know very little about art. But based on my research this seems to be Gouache on canvas due to the flexibility, paint density and matte finish. The final photograph is of the reverse side of the painting showing the bleed through the canvas and general canvas condition. My wife was attracted to this and the other painting of the same woman due to the voluptuous ... morewomanly subject and henna on the subject's hands and feet making this a unique figure of an era that certainly no longer exists in modern Sudan. The barren background and blue sky is typical of the barren landscape of northern Africa. I am offering these separately. But hope this and the other go to the same buyer as both seem to be from the same artist and are of the same woman. This one is signed by the artist which seems to be in Arabic. I would appreciate any additional information any of you may have regarding the figure as her long hair and minimalist henna and Mediterranean/Persian/Ethiopian features are different from the features of a typical Sudanese woman. Will ship rolled in a poster box. Thank you for your interest!

This painting relies on subdued yellows and reds to accentuate the beauty of this woman. I would appreciate any additional information any of you may have regarding the figure as her long hair and minimalist henna and Mediterranean/Persian/Ethiopian features are different from the features of a typical Sudanese woman. Will ship rolled in a poster box. Thank you for your interest!
Djembe African Drum Art Musical Instrument Hand Carved Umbrella Stand Bongo Big
This wooden drum– the actual drum body not the skin– is in excellent shape. It is all hand carved from solid wood and looks fantastic. It measures 25” tall X 13” across at the top. As you can see in the photos the skin is ripped. Although it’s in need of a rehab to make it a playable drum. It would make a gorgeous entryway umbrella stand. The traditional djembe is a goblet shaped hand drum with an authentic goat skin playing surface affixed with rope runners. African djembe drums are hand crafted from a solid piece of hardwood with inner carvings that produce a wide range of tones. Originating in West Africa. This drum was used as a gathering drum and today is popular worldwide for people of all ages.

Yoruba Gelede Helmet Mask, Nigeria, African Tribal Creations gallery, art, Yorba
An African Tribal Creations gallery NO RESERVE AUCTION The Yoruba people are the largest art producing ethnic group in Africa. And are renowned for their copious forms of artwork. A largely agrarian society, the Yoruba are distributed throughout Nigeria, Togo, and Benin, and number in the range of 12 million people. Their artistic interpretations of people are generally rendered in a realistic style, minus the exaggerated facial features, in contrast with many other African tribes which produce highly stylized, even surrealistic or impressionistic representations of the human form. A highly popular art-producing group among collectors, the Yoruba are known for their numerous and elaborate art forms as much as for their history of human sacrifice. The Yoruba culture is subdivided into a number of cults. Each identified by particular thing ... moreit holds sacred. This mask originates from the Gelede cult, which focuses its attention on the power of elderly women. During Gelede festivities helmet masks such as these are worn on or over the head with a raffia costume, and danced in reverence and celebration. On the'cheeks' of the face are large identifying scarification marks. It still has most of its original pigment, including white(kaolin) green, etc. Color of the pigment is faded in some areas, but still represented strongly for the most part, and the piece stands well on its own without support. Wear and age marks are in evidence as is common, including minor age cracking, rub marks, etc. but the piece does not appear to have undergone any serious breaks or repairs. This is a beautiful, prominent, eye catching standalone piece, and a highly coveted artform from the Yoruba culture! This piece measures in at 10.5" x 10.5" x 11" With a weight of three and a half pounds. MEDIUM: Wood. Pigment NOTHING we sell at African Tribal Creations is made in China. Located in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Kuba migrated during the 16th century from the north to their current homelands along the Sankuru River. The arts of the Kuba are known for their elaborate decoration and range of materials. Most famous for their monumental helmet masks, royal figures, and exquisite and stunning fabrics, the Kuba are also famous for their smaller, carved prestige objects where their true genius can be best appreciated. The palm wine cups and the lidded boxes, with their proud, strong faces and remarkable and mythological significant geometric designs, are of a great beauty. The boxes, with their many shapes and designs, are justifiably famous. They are also one of the few remaining links to the ancient Kuba. Cylindrical box like this owe their shape to basketry containers. Such boxes are known as Lukata and were used to store red"tukula" powder( twool) that was ritually essential and thus highly-prized. This red powder was applied to the body prior to important ceremonies like funerals. And also mixed with other pigments to dye raffia cloth, another singular Kuba creation.

Incredible African Folk Art Carving! Part of Collection, see my other listings!
Incredible African Folk Art Carving! Part of Collection. See my other listings! I have today for your consideration an Incredible African Folk Art Carving. Some of the original paint is still on there. I would call this a shelf sitter and it kind of rocks. It almost looks like American Primitive Carving. The numbers on the bottom make me think it came from a museum collection. 5"x 1 1/3" All these pieces have a great patina. Some are marked. This is from an estate auction from a couple who traveled the world in the 1950-60s. So I can say it is at least that old, and probably older. Please view all pictures. They are part of my description! In the shipping cost is tracking fee. People are always emailing me after auctions saying"Gee. I wish I would have bid, but if the winner doesn't pay, email me" That can easily be ... moresolved by just bidding in the first place. All items are old and not mint unless I say so. Some wear is expected on vintage or antique items and not considered a flaw unless a major detraction. I find them at estate sales and auctions. I leave them pretty much alone. Only wipe off dust so as-found patina. Some items are mine that I have collected for over 40+ years. Please see photos as they are part of my description. Ask questions BEFORE bidding please. Your bid is a contract to buy. No bid retractions. I do not take E-check! I also expect payment within three days. And I will ship within three days. Usually Mon-Wen-Fri. Happy to combine shipping to save you money. If shipping seems high, I am more than happy to refund excess to your paypal acct. I have to assume someone in California, Washington or Oregon is buying and guess shipping which, if you are on the east coast, may seem high. I am in Virginia, which is on the east coast. If you are in California, it will take a bit longer to get there, so please when rating my service, keep that in mind. I would like to hear about any issues so I may address them before you leave me anything but five stars and positive feedback. Our

As a collective people, they display a remarkable artistic diversity, shared among dozens and dozens of mask varieties, as well as an innumerable variation in figures. The maternity figure itself is an extremely important form of art produced throughout much of the African continent. And a form of this figure can be found in the majority of art producing ethnic groups. Some are rendered as part animal, some strictly human. Some are produced as clear representations, some are highly abstract. They can be created as nothing more than effigies, or commissioned to relieve the plight of a childless marriage. by adding my eBay Store to your Favorites SUPERB DOGON'BLACKSMITH' FIGURE#1856 Tribe: Dogon. Country: Mali. Material: Wood. Libations. Size: 19" 48.26 cm) tell. Item: 1856 Condition: Good considering age. Note the age cracks in the images. Note: Ex. Adkins Collection. According to Dogon lore. The seventh nommo to descend from the heavens was the blacksmith, bringing with him the ancestors of the human beings, animals, grain and technology. The blacksmith robbed the heavenly workshops of a piece of sun in the form of live coals and incandescent iron and then dashed down the rainbow with his prize, his descent proceeding along a spiral path. Irritated by his theft, those nommos who had remained in the sky attacked the thief. Twice they hurled a firebrand at him, and twice the blacksmith warded it off with the skin of his elbows, ... morethus creating a shield that acquired the solar essence, having received a bit of the sun, so that fire could no longer prevail against it. So brutal was the impact of the blacksmith's landing on earth that the mace he carried in his arms and the anvil slung over his back smashed his sinuous limbs. Thus were created the joints- knees and elbows- which allow men to work and dance. Check out my! Check out my! Customer Service: 561-745-1905 Powered by The free listing tool.
