I am selling this beautiful antique square parlor grand piano forte that is in great condition and plays perfectly. I just had it adjusted and tuned a week ago. After moving to a new home. I hate to have to sell it, but it is too large for my new home. It was made in 1869 by T. Gilbert Piano company(was verified by my piano specialist) serial no. 7724. It has a restored cabinet, new strings and hammers, so it is both a beautiful piece of furniture, as well as functional. All the rounded keys are in perfect condition. The heavy legs unscrew for moving purposes. It also includes a bench. It was the piano of choice for President Andrew Jackson. The price is somewhat negotiable.within that range. The only flaws are that there is a small piece of veneer missing above the right. Front leg, but has been stained to match(picture shown) there is a ... moresmall crack in the veneer in the right, rear leg that points under the piano and isn't visible(picture shown) and some molding on the back, left side has been lost, but stained to match and barely noticeable since it is near the back of the piano(picture shown) Dimensions are 75" L, 37.5" W, 39" H. A young woman who went to South Carolina to teach freed slaves. It talks a lot about a young child who is being whipped seeking refuge in the schools where Catherine taught along with Elizabeth Botume, a well known educator to the African Americans. It has great content throughout. It says in part: I heard a little girl at the roadside calling out Miss Botume and she came running along at a great speed till she reached the buggy. You hardly ever see one of these children more quiet and I said that it was strange for her exert herself so much but she began to speak to Miss B very excitedly and asked her to please take her home to live with her for she said her mother whipped her ... morelike a dog. Drove her out of the house. She cried and sobbed dreadfully, and I felt terribly for her. I wanted to take her away with us or at any rate to go and see her mother but Miss Botume was tired and said she did not feel able to have a contest with the woman and that it was best to go and see some of the neighbors first. So went to a number and they told us the same story. One woman said sometimes they whipped the child and she heard crying for more than an hour an one time they took the child and tied her to a stump out in the field. We did not go to the woman but after Miss B said she wished she had for it seemed dreadful to think of the poor little thing throwing herself on our protection and then leaving her. When we had driven an eight of a mile from the house we heard terrible screams that we took to be the mother, so it seems to e a hard case… We had a visit from a very amusing woman tonight. It is one of the HARDEST TO FIND- Extra SMALL SIZE FRACTIONAL NOTES. The 1869 $.50 US NOTE. In VERY GOOD condition in my opinion. But you can judge for yourself to make the final decision with these photos, which you can enlarge. It has the small portrait of Samuel Dexter who served as Secretary of the Treasury and War in 1800-1801. It is green on the reverse and was printed in 1869 just after the US Civil War under President Andrew Johnson. In the years of the US Civil War starting in 1862 there was a critical shortage of coins. It became such a problem that for 14 years the government issued small size notes called FRACTIONAL CURRENCY. This was from the third issue of fractional ... morepaper money ever issued by the USA. This is a very popular type note. The note is intact despite its age. With full corners and slightly worn edges. It has good color contrast with no writing, no ink, and no missing pieces. There are signs of lots of use like folds, wrinkles, and some soiling, many pin holes and some soiling and staining. T his is still a good looking example of old paper money especially for a small size fractional note which are often very worn out when they are found. This is about as old as US money gets. The art work is simple and the note is less than one third the size of the modern notes. Book value is $20.00 in Very Good condition. $200 in CU. So enjoy a bargain. Some retailers and Shop at Home TV charge much more that book value for this note when they can find it. This note does not come up for auction very often and it often sells for well over book value even on Ebay! It is one of the HARDEST TO FIND- Extra SMALL SIZE FRACTIONAL NOTES. The 1869 $.10 US NOTE. In FINE condition in my opinion. But you can judge for yourself to make the final decision with these photos. You can enlarge both photos. It has the small portrait of LIBERTY. It is green on the reverse and was printed in 1869 just after the US Civil War under President Andrew Johnston. In the years of the US Civil War starting in 1862 there was a critical shortage of coins. It became such a problem that for 14 years the government issued small size notes called FRACTIONAL CURRENCY. This was from the fourth issue of fractional paper money ever issued by the USA. It ... morehas a large red seal. The note is nearly all there and attractive despite its age. With 4 full corners, good color contrast with no writing or ink. There are signs of use like folds, soiling, and wrinkles. There is some soiling, but no tears and only 4 pin holes. The lower edge has serious wear. T his is a good looking example of old paper money especially for a small size fractional note which are often very worn out when they are found. This is about as old as US money gets. The art work is simple and the note is less than one quarter the size of the modern notes. It has straight edges. Book value is $25.00 in FINE condition. $125 in CU. So place a bid and enjoy a bargain. Some retailers and Shop at Home TV charge much more that book value for this note when they can find it. This note does not come up for auction very often and it often sells for well over book value even on Ebay! Guitar plays great, electronics sounds great amplified and fine unamplified. Fantastic neck. The AAA Sitka Spruce top is spectacular. The roundback bowl is dark brown- not the typical black. A nice touch. OP-24 electronics work perfectly. The top purfling and fretboard inlay are abalone. The neck is 5-piece with an ebony fretboard. The bridge is nicely carved. 25 1/4" scale. 1 11/16" width at nut. Gold Schaller tuners with ebony tuner buttons. Hardshell case is in good condition. The upper bout on the bass side has a scratch. Powell Clayton, was a Union general who settled in Arkansas following the Civil War, played a prominent role as a Republican politician in the Reconstruction that followed that conflict. He became the first governor after the state’s readmission in the Union and pursued social, economic, and political policies typical of Republican regimes elsewhere in the South. He subsequently became an important figure in that party’s national politics until the time of his death. He was the ninth governor of Arkansas and served from 1868 to 1871.
