Badge is also colonial veterans organization, Writing on top translates(For exemplary service in the colonies) in memoriam written on back, These medals were for service in the west Africa colonies. Now that being said, These medals were difficult to research due to rarity, some conflicting info. The company was founded in 1900 at the height of German Colonial Rule in South West Africa! See the company history below. The Otavi area is in present day Namibia. Which was formerly the German Colony of South West Africa, and borders South Africa. It contained one of the richest mineral deposits in Africa, and the company was formed to mine and transport those minerals, chiefly copper. Gold is still mined in the area today. The Lower Congo Region, the Cameroons District and Mouth of the Cameroons River. The map comes from a disbound copy of a first edition copy of The Times Atlas. Dating from 1895, with maps produced by the German firm of Velhagen and Klasing. The map. Which is a very detailed single page map and printed in colour on very heavy quality paper, measures 16.25" x 10.75" approximately 41 x 28cm. including a good border all round. The condition is very good with no tears or creases. There is some very slight age discolouration to the edges. But if the map is matted and framed, this would not be visible. Due to its size. The map will be posted carefully ... morerolled in a mailing tube. I am currently listing several maps from the same atlas. Multiple purchases can be mailed for a reduced postage charge.
