There is a copyright date of 1860 along the bottom margin in small print that states"Entered according to an Act of Congress in the year 1860 by Augustus Mitchell in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington. A copy of the title page is also included for authenticity. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. Overall. A Beautiful Classic Antique Map with Superb Color! Size: The map image measures approximately 10 1/2 by 13 inches on a 12 1/4 by 15 1/4" page with a margin all around as seen in the pic. Condition: It is in Good condition for its age. Basically as seen in the pics, with overall tonal aging and slight darkening around the edges. There are a couple of chips off the edge and a short edgetear, margins have been slightly cropped and some light handling around the margins, otherwise the map image is very clean in general with bright color and a nice antique quality that is rare to fine in this condition. It is printed on heavy paper, blank on the reverse with original handcolor as issued. The pics are of the actual map and very accurate of condition and color in general, however the actual map looks much better. Beautiful and Detailed Original Map from 1904 Mitchell County Iowa(This is an authentic map from 1904-NOT a reproduction) This is a genuine 1904 map removed from The Iowa State Atlas. Published in Davenport, Iowa by the Iowa Publications Co. Maps were prepared and published under the supervision of M. Melchior) Huebinger, C. E. Map is printed on the scale of 1/2" = 1 Mile) The map is dated 1904 of the face(see third scan below) The overall sheet size is about 15.25" x 18.25" The size within the printed"Ears of Corn" border is about 13.75" x 17" Map is too large for my 11" x 17" tabloid scanner; so it was scanned in two passes and then assembled electronically. There are some scanner lines visible in the scan. And where the two sections are joined there is a slight variation in the overall tone. ... moreThe map itself has NO BREAK, and is very consistent in regards to color. The third scan below is a somewhat enlarged close-up to show quality and detail. There are two other scans at the bottom of the listing: one shows the Legend as it appears on every map in this series; and the other is of the Atlas Title Page. This is a very detailed map. Showing cities, town and villages; roads, railroads(railroads are identified by name) Electric Railroads if any, Schools, Churches, Cemeteries, Stands of Timber, creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, coal mines, quarries etc. Even the smallest communities in existence at the time are identified. Communities include: Meroa. Osage, Orchard, New Haven, Cardiff, Brownville, Doran, Riceville, David, Little Cedar, Fuller, St. Ansgar, Newburg, Carpenter, Otranto Station Mona Hustad, Toeterville, Stacyville, Meyer, Bailey, Mitchell and West Mitchell. Condition: Very Good. Bottom edge has a tear with loss of paper. But stopping just short of the"ears of corn" border. Printed on medium weight paper which is blank on the reverse. The color was applied by the stone chromolithographic process, which had been superseded in most publishing firms by 1904
