UP FOR AUCTION. WE OFFER THE STATE OF KANSAS 1872 A fine early vintage and genuine antique map showing all of Kansas. By Asher and Adams dated 1872. one large map sheet. Hand colored nicely by the artisans of the time. Indian lands below the state line showing the Shawnees, Quapaws, Senecas nations. All the railroads are named and proposed routes to extend the railroads further west across the open plains. Much of the western area of the state remains wild and open with no or very little white settlements. A few western army forts are shown and named. Many of the counties named in honor of famous Indian tribes, and Civil War generals and public officials. Most of the far west still has no counties measured out. Map measures about 17 x 23" Full margins all around, some light soiling, a few archival acid free repairs to a few margin tears ... moreon the reverse, hard to see. On the reverse blank side, some pencil markings from a child, and some moisture stains can be seen but not seen on the map image itself. No odors. Antique State Maps of Missouri and Montana - 1890s 19th Century US Map
Visit the eBay store to see what category is on sale this week. Antique maps of Missouri and Montana from an atlas published in the late 19th Century. These US state maps are printed back to back. So only one can be displayed at a time. Framed, these make great wall decor for an office, den or just about any room in the house. Approximate dimensions: Page: 11.5 x 9 in/ 29 x 23 cm. Condition: Good. Lots of dark aging around the margins. Which just adds to the appeal of the old map. The paper is fairly fragile, so map page will need to be protected from less than careful handling. Note: the page was just a bit too big for the scanner, so part of the margin areas is not shown.The Missouri map was printed off center(as was common in the 19th century) so there is not much margin at the bottom. Montana is also off center, but the bottom margin ... moreis about 1/2 inch. Army forts are shown; most are 150 or more miles west of the Mississippi. Fort Snelling is the northern-most; Ft. Jackson. The southern-most. Indian tribal lands are identified. A few roads are also shown. A Key chart in the lower left corner of the map showing the approx. distances between army forts and outposts ... moreand the number of days it would take to march to each. Detailed to the rivers that were known and named. Lands ceded to the white man through early treaties.the states of Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri. and the vast land of the Northwest Territory. Important and quite scarce map. a few minor foxing spots, no odors, full margins. Paper good stock, acid free with virtually no defects. Measures overall about 17 x 23" Note: our camera does not really do it as it should, the paper is not pink, but bright white, the colored lines are hand done by the cartographer. With most of the western sections of the states remaining yet to be settled by the white man. The new county of"Custer" shown but not yet settled. Sioux County on the outer western area is barren land, the county below named Cheyenne has a railroad running through it with a few towns settled. Army forts along the tracks and rivers and in the plateau's are shown and named. All towns and villages. Rivers, etc. A fine western map. Measures about 15 x 22" no odors. Full margins. Condition: Very fine. Perfect coloring by the artisan of the time, usually women did the coloring. No odors. note the top blank margin has a moisture stain, matting would hid that fact.
