1867 S Augustus Mitchell Antique Map of Arizona & New Mexico US States
Antique hand colored map engraved by S Augustus Mitchell Jr. Dated 1867.Measures 15 1/4" by 12 1/2" overall. This depicts Arizona and New Mexico. I believe this came out of his Mitchell's New General Atlas that was published in 1868. It has the fancy grapevine border and accuracy the company was known for. Attractive 1872 map of New Orleans by S. Augustus Mitchell, Original
A wonderful antique map from S. Augustus Mitchell's" New General Atlas of 1873. The map has the copyright daate of 1872 in fine print just under the bottom border. The map is about 12 1/2 x 15 inch. Mitchell was the most successful commercial cartographer in the US. This map shows little signs of age which makes owning this original a teriffic alternative to owning a reproduction. This antique item has the opportunity to increase in value over the years. The title page of the atlas is shown as a reference and is not included. Free Shipping.

VG+ condition, light over all age toning, stain in the right margin, at the centerfold, very faint but does enter the decorative border and the surface of the map. Blue outline color separating the Louisiana and Arkansas border has faded, almost to a brown color. Map has the Mitchell decorative border of grapes and vine leaves. Map is colored by county with lots of detail, cities, towns, railroad lines as well as topographic detail. Bold outline colors of red and blue denote the borders of the states. Portions of surrounding states are in black ... moreand white. Western Louisiana, has counties formed but very light settlement, mostly topographic information, as with southern most counties in Arkansas and Mississippi. Good detail of the Mississippi Delta area and the coastal communities.
