Antique Cast Iron Snowbird Eagle Patent Date Unique
Here is an old cast iron snowbird in the form of an eagle. There is a patent date on the back. It reads July 24 and the year, which I can't make out, maybe 1909? It stands 5 inches high. It has a defect from when it was poured, the metal did not form fully on the wing leaving a hole. This is the same as the other four listed. This one being unique with the factory error. Antique Cast Iron Architectural Wall Mounted Eagle
Up for auction is an antique architectural wall mounted metal eagle recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good used condition. Originally black, it has been repainted white. There are some losses ti the paint throughout. It is made from metal and attracts a magnet. There are two mount holes in the wing area. A very nice size, it measures approximately 27 1/2" x 2" x 10 1/2" in size. Quite heavy, it weighs almost 10 pounds unpacked. A nice quality piece, there are no makers marks or any other markings I can find. Great indoors or out. The only condition issues to discuss are some minor rust spots, some along the wing tips. I bought these thirty years ago in Natchez. Mississippi and was told they were architectural pieces salvaged from a 19th century building in Natchez. The eagles are(one piece mold) cast iron weighing 5 lbs each and measuring 8" X 8" X 4" They were made into bookends within the last 70 years. I wiped them down with a damp cloth to remove dust but they have not been touched while in my possession.
