This 15 plus pound two piece cast iron hitching post fence post top horse head comes from a local NH estate and was on the ladies front yard fence for a few generations. It has no cracks or breaks and was formed from two pieces and welded or brazed together. Not the original paint I would assume and has a few splotches of paint the same color as her fence. Up for your consideration is a fancy 19th century Rare Hitching Post. This post has the Victorian Ladies Heads going around. All molded in Cast Iron detail. There is one side bare and we are not sure if it had a head there or was just the side facing into the property. The paint is badly worn, but we have left it all original for the new owner to deside about the restoration.There are some losses to the sides, but they are not noticeable. This is a full size post standing about 39" tall by 8" square. We have not found a foundry mark, but there may be one on it underneath. Vintage Cast Iron Jockey Fence Post Hitching Post
This wonderful jockey hitching post is 13" tall and 3 1/2" wide at the bottom. He weighs 13 lb. 11.8 oz. There is a round hole on the bottom that measures 1 7/8" inside diameter and 1 1/16" deep. With a single screw hole on the back. The paint is clearly original but as you can see from the photos there are lots of spots of rust. I got him at an antique shop a long time ago and he has been sitting in a box for many years. There are no markings that I can find. He has a green shirt and cap, white pants with red undertones, black boots, belt, collar, and hair. The area between his legs is faded blue in the front and black in the back, and the stand he is on is black/blue with a little green. His left cheekbone isn't smooth like the right one but I'm pretty sure that was original to the piece and not damage. He is ... moreholding a black rod of some kind and that is the only place I see any kind of a seam except I suspect the arms were soldered onto the body after it was cast but before being painted. It is approximately 7" round in diameter and about 4 1/2" high. It has a 5/8" thick ring set into the post and a 2 3/4" round ring attached to the first ring. It is used so does have some pitting. This is an antique cast iron horse head hitching post. It is well over 50 years old. The cast iron head measures 13 inches tall and has a hitch ring thru its nose. And its base is 5.25 inches wide. Attached to the head is a 3 inch diameter galvanized post with a set of Hames horse collar brackets, welded in place to it. The post is designed to be planted about 2 or so feet into the earth. The"Ranch" is featured on roadsideamerica dot com. It sits along side Highway 88 just east of the City of Stockton in the agriculturally rich San Joaquin Valley. This roadside attraction was a working hay ranch for decades. At one time the founder Frank Medina had the largest collection of windmills in the world. Frank himself was an interesting fella in his own right. He was the oldest man in the world with his own teeth never having a cavity. Windmill Ranch is now run by his son. It's not open to the public, but for the lucky few who happen by the"old cowboy" might just give you a tour of the place. The Ranch has dozens of windmills.
