Reds, orange and purples in the clay they made them with that still show nicely. North central Piedmont NC made brick, possibly hand made, no stamped name. These brick would make great accent pavers to a walkway or landscape project with other masonry products. They are approx. 8"x4"x2.5" and weigh about 5 lbs. each. The 4x8 surfaces are clean and I removed almost all the mortar also. Some of the tar from the flashing still shows on some of the 2.5x8 sides and white paint, not really visible in a paver application. They are on a small pallet and ready to go. Up for sale is antique architectural and gardening lion head wall mounted fountain recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area from the estate of an antique dealer. These items were packed away and remained unseen for over a decade. There are losses on the side and the bottom of the piece. The lions nose was pushed in a bit too. A large decorative antique plaster head measuring approx 13" x 13" x 6" 33cm x 33cm x 15cm) possibly from an architectural moulding or grand building. It makes a stunning feature or an impressive wall hanging. Its in good condition for its age- I believe it has been painted in matt chalk coloured paint a long time ago and there are a few small areas where this is peeling. But I think this adds to its vintage character, although you could probably strip the paint off if you wanted to get it down to the bare plaster. This is pretty heavy and being plaster. The front of the door is a creme color which looks to have been painted years ago. This is a solid door. Up for bid is an original architectural antique cast iron barn roof star. When this start was p urchased several months ago. It was in two pieces, mai nly because the barn it was removed from had collapsed. After removing the rest of the roof from the bottom of the star I cleaned up the area around the break and had it rewelded. Today it is in perfect condition. With only a m i nor amount of rust showing around the repaired area. The star is ready to be remounted on a roof or a barn or house. The star is approximately 10-12" high and about as wide. RARE antique parlor aquarium victorian conservatory architectural
Amazing 2 year restoration project of a rare 1890's Victorian conservatory/parlor aquarium. This aquarium would have sit in the parlor or conservatory(greenhouse) of a wealthy industrialist of the time period as aquariums of this type were expensive even back 120+ years ago. This beautiful aquarium is made of cast iron from the"plant shelf" down.The iron base has a beautiful swirl pattern with"faces in headdress" on each leg. The 10 gallon(approximately) hexagon aquarium is made from stamped zinc and the top filigree and urn are made from copper. The height is 58" and the width and depth is 28" x 28" The original aquarium probably had a steam powered air pump that sit on the shelf right below the plant shelf. I have this aquarium currently running with a new external pump and cartridge filter that is ... moreenclosed in a black steel powder coated"box" so as not to distract from the aquarium. I only know of 3 of these aquariums in my 35+ years of collecting these tanks. 2 of them I own and the other lives in Canada with another collector friend of mine. Restoration; Both of mine had the top zinc aquarium either missing or in rusted pieces. It took me several years to find a metal guy who took the time to make a pattern and replicate the aquarium from scratch and then we found a 125 year old tin metal ceiling company that looks like they made the actual top filigree and urn for this aquarium for the original iron company back in the 1890's! The iron base and shelf are are original although I added black slate on top of the shelf to hold the potted plants. original was wood( Painted to the original colors from the 1890's. To either side are the closets. They are faced with beveled mirror doors with a drawer below each. The 4 legs have fluted pilasters topped with columns. Corbels, and finials. The pediments are loaded with carvings. Ornate moldings, spindle work galleries and in the center a peaked crown with carved sun rays. Here is a fascinating antique or vintage glass block which was salvaged from somewhere. This is about 7 3/4 inches squared with depth of about 3 7/8 inches. You can see that this has some cement or adhesive or something on the some of the sides. I did gently scrub this is the kitchen sink more to get the dust off. But I would think someone could figure out how to clean this up better if they want. Just for giggles, I will tell you that this did float in the sink so this is apparently sealed up. Maybe someone has a place for this or an arts or crafts person can be creative. I guess I have seen people turn these into lamps or lights. There are some scratches on each side, little wear, but what a fascinating item for someone. They each have a long screw sticking out of the back 4 1/4" long. They are unmarked, I have no idea what they are from, maybe house trim or parts from a carnival ride? Rare Antique Architectural 1879 Zinc House Wall Plaque Crest Flame
Up for auction is this antique architectural 1879 House plaque or crest. It is not cast iron. So we are almost certain it is zinc. This was once part of a larger crest and- as you can see- it broke off on the 2 sides. However, still a rare, wonderful find with a beautiful flame and swirl design.
