Traveled to Europe in the 1920's, buying a few rooms at a World Exposition in Brussels, this came from an italian exhibit. The door loaded with hand carved ornamentation, measures 72 X 32, not including the header or side casing) With details featuring a lions head in the center of the door, above a vertical panel with stems. Leaves, flowers and berries which divides raised square panels of golden leaves with darts at each corner. Main cross panel of gold stems with green leaves. At the bottom a lovely panel with two large leaves with red berries with egg and dart surround. Perimeter is layers of smaller leaves with berries. Has five blocks with gold ... moreflowers. Has pull latch on the right side. There are a few photos of where there is minor surface wear. Such an outrageous door! The back of the door is plain. Was used in a billiard room and covered the area where the billiard sticks were stored. Header and surround are ornately painted and carved. When dismantling this room. We found under a beam a note with the carpenters name and 1926 written in pencil. Antique Architectural Salvage Hand Carved Wood Griffin Or Lion With Wings
This is a very cool looking antique architectural salvage handcarved wood Griffin or a lion with wings. It probably dates from the very late 19th to very early 20th century. It measures 10 inches tall(25.4 cm) It is 7 1/2 inches deep(19 cm) At the bottom in the front at the scroll it is 3 inches wide. But most of it is 2 inches wide(7.6 cm, 5.1 cm) I have a strong feeling this was from the front of the arm of an armchair. If you look at the bottom. You will see that one side has a strip of wood attached, whereas the other side doesn't. In the back of his head it looks as if there was another piece there which is missing(please see photos) It's developed a great old brown patina to it. It weighs just under 1 lb. 3 oz. 530 g)

Rose Terrace was a private home located at 12 Lakeshore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Built in 1934 by Anna Dodge, widow of automobile pioneer Horace E. Dodge, it was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1971 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Despite this, the house was demolished in 1976.
