IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. The buyer, if he/she desires a working lock, can probably purchase one through ebay or vi

It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Still works it is not perfect but it is not that bad over all. victorian stencil woman and couple Measurements are 30" L x 15"W x 12" H you could sand it down and make a TREASURE chest out of it or use it as is.

The brass-plated lock(see bottom left corner of picture provided) also measures about 3.5" from left to right. Across its widest dimension, and has the maker's logo, in the shape of a key and name"ORBIN" the best I can make this out) imprinted below the key hole. Although we don't have a key for the lock, it"opens" by pushing down on the brass colored"button" Found immediately above the key hole. A key is not included. The 2nd trunk. Or chest, handle(see top-most item in center of picture provided) measures about 3.5" from left to right and 2.75" from top to bottom. The 4th item offered for auction. That helps hold a chest lid ... moreopen at an appropriate angle, measures about 6.5" long and about.5" wide. It is not magnetic, so is likely made of brass or other non-ferrous metal. The other portion of this"slide" is not included for auction(this portion was missing when we acquired it)

Has some kind of hard leather or hide like material around edges. Has an identification sticker on top which cant be fully read, but is shown in photos. Can only make out location, Newark NJ, and above that the last 3 letters of name'ard' Paper lining on inside in poor shape and metal bracket on inside, that holds top lid from swinging to far back, is broken and needs replacement. I picked up this chest with the intentions of restoring it but just don't have the time. I do not know much about these other than the fact that they look cool. I have no idea how old it is. Who made it, or what it's worth. The measurements are as follows: 30" W x 19" D x 21" H. I especially like the metal hardware on this chest and it seems to be in good condition. Large Antique German Hand Painted Legged Wedding Chest Trunk
Up for sale is a beautiful large sized German hand painted wedding chest measuring 32" tall. 49" long and 26" deep. I had sent over by container from England to the States. I am not sure about the year of this chest. There is one wooden bar inside the side of the chest to hold the top open with four small legs each measuring 2" tall.The outside is painted in a maroon color with floral designs in blues and greens. The backside of the trunk is painted in a light blue color as shown in the picture. This would be a lovely storage chest for blankets or clothing.
