I believe that the seat had fabric covering it at one time as there are small holes all over it. Possibly from staples? This fine piece would look great as a plant stand or even as a stool. It has mounting holes in the cast iron base for mounting it permenantly to a floor or just leave it attched to the existing piece of wood. The stool may be disassembled for shipment. The height is not adjustable. Get creative! Approximate Measurements The stool measures 19 1/2" tall and 21" tall including the base board. It has an approximate 6 1/2" diameter base. RARE* Antique George B Bains& Sons Trunk These trunks are quite hard to find these days since few have survived their travels…and this is one lucky survivor since originally they were intended to be light weight but they weren't very strong. This one is in very worn condition. The original decorative brass lock is beautiful and extremely rare. The lock is marked Pat’D May 1870 and Sept 1887. The lock was made by the Star Lock Works which was established in Philadelphia in 1869(formerly C. Liebrich. An early American locksmith who started in 1836) Inside the trunk is the original maker's label of George B. Bains and Sons, a successful trunk maker in Philadelphia for many years. Inside is a removable upper shelf insert to reveal more trunk space in the bottom. The bottom has condition issues and the outer straps are missing. There ... moreis no key for the lock. There are initials M. E. W. on the side of the trunk and a sticker on the side that reads Pennsylvania Railroad Company Broad St. Station Storage Room M. Train 190(Broad Street Station(demolished in 1953) was the primary passenger terminal for the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1881 to the 1950’s. I'm guessing it is from early 1900s or possibly late 1800s. Item is located in Newark. Delaware and can be picked up locally or can be shipped but buyer is to pay actual shipping costs. Antique Rare English Chest--(1600's). Detail of Appraiser's Report is Here.
Hand Made Old English Chest. Carving on right corner dating back to 1600's Needs some work. Was professionally appraised. Detail of his report is posted here. Sold as is. Buyer arrange pick up. This is a completely pleasing old coffer chest. Most of it is early 17th century. It is almost certainly English, Jacobean period(Charles I) Coffers were richly ornamented chests. The interior accessed through the lid, strongly made and with concealed hinges, and used for storing valuables. The carving is a mixture of'gouged' and'modeled' ornament. Very typical of the period. For instance the lunette pattern along the top rail(above the doors) is an example of gouged carving and the vertical fern pattern up the stiles(the corner posts) is an example of modeled carving. As is the carving on the doors themselves. I t has the original ... moreowner's monogram and date. Top left are the initials"ANB" and top right the date. 163? which conforms nicely with the period of the decoration. The reason the last number is missing is that the sides were once paneled and the facing edge of the paneling abutted the stiles at the front and would have provided a space for the last letter and completed the edge of the rising fern pattern to match. T he top is original. You can see the individual adz marks in the wood on the underside. It looks like it was hand hewn from a single balk of timber. Originally. It would not have had cupboard doors, just two fixed panels. The molding along the bottom is a later addition. As are the bun feet. On the inside. The t ill is missing but one can se e the rebates where it once was. Th e hardware is no doubt original- ironwork made by the local blacksmith. The top is certainly oak. Usually these coffers are all oak but beech. Lime, elm, chestnut, maple and ash were also used. The color of the rest seems to be too amber-colored to be oak. But then no stains were ever used back then, the wood being treated simply with oil and polished with beeswax. The graining does look like oak.
