Antique primitive tool chest with metal stand- folk art paint
This is a nice old tool chest with metal stand. It looks like it was painted with blue/ grey milk paint but don't think it would have been old enough for that. This has a holder in the top lid for a hand saw. There are two small drawers but they are hard to show in the photo. Somebody broke into this chest at some time because they lost the key. The original lockstep is in the drawer and could be reinstalled if you get a key that fits. Otherwise you can order a new lock set from one of the reproduction wood working supply companies. This chest measures 35 1/2" long by 16 1/2" wide by 15" tall. When you set it on the metal stand it measures 27" tall. This is a nice example of a primitive chest and displays nicely inside. It would be a lovely place to store toys. Extra blankets, sweaters or whatever you need to store It could be used as a little side or coffee table or at the end of a twin bed. The cover sits nice and tightly despite a chip under the hinge in the back. I do not know how old or who painted this chest. I was first drawn to it when I saw the molding as it looked like an antique ice chest I have had for years. The decorative painting and handles could have been added later. I think it is oak or ash. I forgot to take a picture of the unpainted bottom before I packed it for shipping. Its not pine. It has a lot of grain. As you can see in the pictures this is a shabby ... morelooking piece. The paint has crazing. The handles have some rust, there are ring marks on the top and there are some small chips. It is still very cute and if you like naturally aged things you will like this piece. I packed it very well wrapping it in bubble. Shrink wrap and paper to try and keep the weight down. The box I found weighed 5 lbs so this seems like a better method. Please feel free to ask any questions. I charge buyers the actual USPS shipping costs with no hidden shipping or packing fees. Primitive Antique Folk Art Decorated WOOD CARPENTER CHEST TRUNK BOX
For your consideration is this truly unique folk art decorated wood Carpenter Tool Chest. It has many carvings including 3 initials" MFA" on the raised top. The sides and front have carved diamond shapes and crude faux wood graining. There are several layers of old original paint giving this trunk its great patina. The chest measures 38 inches wide by 19 inches deep by 18 1/2 inches high. There are several metal parts in the lid which were used to hold tools. Wear is as expected from a piece of its use and age and is still structurally sound. This chest is truly a piece of Americana. Please refer to the photos to judge condition for yourself. This auction is for an old primitive. Folk art, paint decorated,footed, slanted chest/trunk. This charming piece is beautifully decorated with a large scene of a lion attacking a dragonish looking animal. There are birds, flowers and foliage. Pine wood. Measures about 15" tall. 26" long and 15" wide. Condition: Good! Losses to the paint which exposes a layer of blue paint. General age related wear(feet, corners, etc. Interior fabric is VERY soiled.
