Antique primitive tool chest with metal stand- folk art paint
This is a nice old tool chest with metal stand. It looks like it was painted with blue/ grey milk paint but don't think it would have been old enough for that. This has a holder in the top lid for a hand saw. There are two small drawers but they are hard to show in the photo. Somebody broke into this chest at some time because they lost the key. The original lockstep is in the drawer and could be reinstalled if you get a key that fits. Otherwise you can order a new lock set from one of the reproduction wood working supply companies. This chest measures 35 1/2" long by 16 1/2" wide by 15" tall. When you set it on the metal stand it measures 27" tall. This is a nice example of a primitive chest and displays nicely inside. From the gorgeous selection of clearest grained walnut, to the dovetailed everything everywhere, to the many perfectly sized fixtures& holders for every size of bit, chisel& tool. Even the small interior drawers are gorgeously dovetailed on all four corners with rebated bottoms. I've included as many photos as possible in order to attempt to show some of the many exquisite details of this gorgeous chest. But it would really have to be seen to be fully admired. Eve the way the hinge is recessed and the iron hanging brackets are beautifully done. Imagine what this might have looked like with all of its tools inside. a place for everything& everything ... morein its place" and this was a lot of things! I've put in some old screwdrivers to try to indicate the scale of this rather large box, although I think those holders were actually for drill bits of some sort. The box measures about 30" High(plus the forged iron hanging brackets) 20" wide closed(40" open) 10" deep.Some patina& signs of use add character& interest& history to this piece, it was clearly very well taken care of(for a tool box) likely used lovingly by the same cabinetmaker who crafted it. Antique 10 Drawer Hinged Lid Montgomery Ward Seed Tool Storage Chest Cabinet Box
This is an unusual antique 10 drawer chest with an additional compartment in the top under the hinged lid. I originally thought it might have been used for tools. But I found an old seed sales tag from 1944 on the inside for Wards Shady Lawn Seed Mix and a tag from the Department of Agriculture in St. Paul, MN(included) The side of the chest is marked Montgomery Ward& Co, Winona, MINN, so I believe it could have been used for seeds. It measures 24" L x 13" W x 31" H. Some of the drawers have a hole drilled through the bottom toward the front edge(visible in the 11th photo, looking down at open drawers) The lid has a latch on the front so it can be locked. All drawer hardware looks original. It is in very good condition overall. Joints are tight, and nothing is loose or broken but there are a few small chips missing from ... morethe wood. The finish on the lid and around the top is quite scuffed and there are some visible dings and shallow gouges, but the aged patina is fantastic. The drawers, sides, and back have a lighter finish and are in very good condition with some light scuffs and a few paint splashes and marks. The inside of the drawers have some dusty residue, but the majority of the chest is clean overall. It will be packed very well and insured during shipping.
