It has a very pretty pressed tin design mixed in with the wooden strips. It really makes a very pretty display piece and has kind of a modern industrial look about it due to the pressed tin. It would look great in a warehouse loft apartment. It is in display condition but has issues as a useable trunk. Both of the old leather side handles are missing. The large front center hinge lock works fine but I do not have a key for this trunk and don't know if the lock works. Both of the side front locks have issues but display well. For auction is one Vintage Antique Steamer US Trunk Co. Wardrobe Trunk. US Trunk Co. emblem of Fall River. Massachusetts. This was my great grandmother's trunk. My family came from England in the late 1800's but the history of US Trunk Co.I believe dates this to be the early 1900's. It's green wood with metal corners and does need some work but appears to be all original as is. There is no key. The dimensions are 30"L x 17"W x 13"D. The two side latches work properly and the center lock is a bit stiff and may not work. There is some writing undermeath the center lock that is hard to read but it looks like it says"Patented 1867, reissued Aug. and we cant't seem to make out the rest. We believe this is from the late 1800's to early 1900's but are unsure of the actual age. There is some very nice ornate designs on the riveted corners and the black metal on the tops and sides. There is some damaged wood and some damage to the metal on one corner, also some rust on the back hinges. The inside has some cracking in the wood but is still in good shape. Antique Vintage Collectible Black Metal Lined Wood Trunk Chest
For sale is a vintage collectible black metal lined wood trunk. The exterior features a well patinated appearance giving it the feel of a well storied life. This trunk has heavy duty metal corners and latches. It also has some brass reinforcements. The original lock is broken and does not come with a key. The lock has been disabled and cannot lock. However, there is a loop latch that you can fit a separate pad lock to if you do need to secure the trunk. To ease carrying the trunk it has heavy leather strap handles on the side. Chest/ Trunk- Brown Roughly 40" Long(without handles) x 22" Wide x 24" Tall The last photo illustrates the bottom of the chest/ trunk When we got this trunk it had several vintage uniforms and a block/brick of mothball type crystals in one of the uniforms and the trunk did smell like mothballs. Antique / Vintage 19.5" Dovetailed Wooden Chest / Box
This is an Antique/ Vintage 19 1/2" Dovetailed Wooden Chest/ Box. The chest has a hinged lid with scalloped edges. The base of the box measures 19 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 9 1/8" The body of the box exclusive of the base measures 18 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 6 5/8" The depth of the box on the inside is 8 1/2" The corner joints are curved finger joints. Often colloquially called dovetails(dovetails have a triangular profile whereas finger joints have parallel, horizontal edges) The box has a dark finish on the outside with a nice patina of age. The inside is unfinished. We do not know the type of wood. Perhaps you can tell from the appearance of the finished outside and the unfinished inside. The bottom of the box is made from a 1/8" thick sheet of plywood. On one photo of the inside you can see some wooden strips ... moreor shims. It is possible that the bottom was damaged and replaced and these were part of the repair. But we do not know for sure. The box has a lock but. As found, there is no key. There is what appears to be the remnant of a paper label on the back inside panel as seen. The front inside panel also had some sort of paper covering and there are remnants of this at several place. The chest was purchase in England. We assume it was probably made there. But we do not know for sure, nor do we know specifically what its age is. This is a great looking antique/ vintage chest would be a great piece of decor. And it could also serve a variety of utilitarian purposes as well! Condition The chest is overall in nice condition but there are several issues to be noted: The bottom panel may or may not have been replaced. With attendant inside support repair, as discussed above, and the box is offered as found/ as seen/ as described with respect to this issue. The box is offered as found with respect to the missing key for the lock There is a crack along the base panel on one end as seen. Marked with several arrows. VINTAGE Antique Wardrobe STEAMER CHEST TRUNK National Vulcanized Fibre co.
Here is an antique Steamer Trunk Wardrobe. The sides are flat so this could be used as an interesting coffee table. The outside brass has a little oxidation and there are assorted nicks and dings from use but overall it's in pretty good shape. It has all four(4) drawers. The top drawer locks and I believe one of the keys works in that lock. All the hanging mechanisms work- the hanging bars extend out etc. I have all the wooden hangers(see photo) It smells a little musty inside but probably nothing Febreeze and fresh air won't fix. The lock on the outside works and I have two(2) original keys plus a new one I had to have made when I locked the keys inside. I have always called this the Circus trunk because I bought it in Sarasota. Florida which has very strong circus ties. Sarasota was for many years the winter home of Ringling Brothers ... moreCircus and Barnum and Bailey Circus and now has an excellent Circus Museum and the Ringling Art Museum(formerly the Ringling residence) The man I bought the trunk from said it had belonged to a circus performer. I did a little research but was not able to get any more information than that. So not only can you buy a very cool old trunk but you can have a mystery included for free! This is a fun piece of Americana and of special interest to Circus fans everywhere! I don't know how much this weighs. Probably 70-100 pounds I would guess. I purchased this at the Cypress Swap meet over 10 years go It is a unique chest covered with colored leather and a decorative studded design. It has been stored inside a non smoking home.
