This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Haskell Bros True Steamer Cabin Travelers Trunk Antique Chest Leather Wood
Up for auction is a rare antique Haskell Bros. Chicago true steamer Cabin trunk approximately 40"x14"x20" It shows it's age but still very beautiful. This true low-profile steamer is harder to come by then the taller flat lids. Materials include leather. Oak, canvas and hand pounded metals. Haskell Bros are among one of the top names in American trunks. This trunk is very solid and latches still work. I do not have the key. Please see Photos for condition. ANTIQUE STEAMER CHEST VICTORIAN DOME TOP TRUNK - RESTORED REFINISHED WITH KEY
Up for sale is this beautiful antique dome top steamer trunk with ornate embossed metal work and a working key. The trunk measures 32" long by 18" wide and 21" tall. The exterior of this trunk was cleaned. Sanded and the wood slats were stained with minwax"golden oak" then the trunk was sealed with spar urethane. The interior lining was removed then the wood was sanded and stained with minwax"golden oak" as well. This trunk shows some wear from age and has some minor flaws i.e. one of the hinges is broke(does not effect the stability, very functional) overall the trunk is in very good condition. Arch Top Steamer Trunk Beautifully restored. 1800's trunk. Top is covered in a crocodile vinyl, new handles made of the same crocodile vinyl. Wood has a deep red mahogany finish, remainder of trunk is finished in deep browns, finished on the bottom also. Interior is covered in a deep brown felt. Nice sturdy piece. Doesn't look like it ever had latches, does have a lock, but no key. I have been told that a locksmith will be able to come up with a key, due to the primitive nature of the lock. It also never had wheels, like some do, and no interior trays. Has enough of a flat surface on top to hold a tray, so it could be used as a coffee or end table. Enormous chest. Oak, heavy dark original patina, hand forged hardware, evidence of worm holes and early wood bore, none existing now) with thick solid planks of oak used in construction. Chest measures 77x281/2 x40 inches and weighs upwards of 400 pounds. Provenance: A European castle, possibly Germany. This piece came to the U.S. in the 1950's with Colonel William Shlitz, USA, and we have purchased from estate. Non smoking estate but there is evidence of purple paint to be removed on one edge(per the estate, the work of a small child) Most wood is upwards of 1 1/2 inches thick. Evidence of hand hewning on back, as well as planing. Chest is solid, and tightly together and very well kept and well built. This trunk is slightly domed. It is in excellent condition for such an old piece. The leather handles and hardware are in good and working condition however I do not have the key. There are wheels on each of the four corners and the bottom is metal. It can be left alone or refinished to be a beautiful addition to any space in your home. Up for auction is a well-traveled and purpose-built antique leather trunk. This trunk chest features real brass hardware with working latch closure. Reinforced leather corners, interesting nail head detail and real flat copper rivets. It is a very sturdy, well-constructed trunk which also has four inner metal braces to make it more crush-resistant, along with a green twill cotton liner throughout. Please look at all the photos to get a sense for the used condition of this antique trunk chest. The trunk has two clasps at its front where a leather handle was likely affixed at one time. In addition. One of the leather seams across the back side has pulled away slightly as shown, but does not detract from the piece as it is on the backside. We never thought to re-affix that seam but that could certainly be done. Structurally, the trunk opens ... moreand closes freely with two leather hinge support straps that hold the lid open securely. Antique Trunk / Chest 30x18x20 Inches
I wish I knew more about this trunk. But I simply don't know anything about antiques. I purchased this at an impressive antique shop(south of Pittsburgh) for more than what I am listing it for. Sorry about the poor lighting in the pictures. I included the dimensions in the description. It is obviously"distressed" But other than that, very structurally sound. The only knock I could put on it is that there is a"slight fracture" in the top. It is slight though. If you look in the 3rd picture, there is a line that runs across the top from left to right. It is very fine and hasn't caused me any problems. It came like this and my original thought was to put my 60+ pound plasma TV on top of the chest. I am 100% confident it could hold that weight and there would be no problem or further fracturing. But over time, I'm ... moresure it wouldn't be good for the piece itself, so I never tried. Antique Scandinavian Rosemaling Hand Painted Large Sized Legged Chest/Trunk
Up for sale is a beautiful large sized Scandinavian hand painted rosemaling chest that I had sent over by container to the States. I am not sure about the year of this chest but it has a lot of patina and is one of a kind. This chest measures 32" tall. 49" long and 26" deep. There is one wooden bar inside the side of the chest to hold the top open with four small legs each measuring 2" tall.The outside is painted in a maroon color with floral designs in blues and greens. The backside of the trunk is painted in a light blue color as shown in the picture. This would be a lovely storage chest for blankets or clothing. There is definite wear on the outside and inside of this chest that I think only adds to its great patina. I will be happy to ship this chest if need be and will research the best rates. Fantastic Large Antique Black Steamer Trunk Chest
Nice. Heavy black/very dark brown antique steamer trunk. The front lock and both side latches are present. Often the front center mechanisms are missing. Gorgeous metal accents and rivet work. Much of the leather strapping has rotted away which is very normal for these trunks that did most of their travel in the damp bottoms of large ships. The initials JEM has been placed on the side. There is a small dent on the top and water damage to the lining only on the inside as you can see in the photos. PERFECT for an end or coffee table with the flat top, as a restoration project or a blanket chest. Measures 24.5" High, 38" Wide and 22" Deep.
