Camel back, Dome Top, Hump back Antique Storage Trunk
Beautifully shaped camel back antique trunk. As far as I can tell this trunk appears to be from the late 1800's or early 1900's. The hardware is gorgeous! The shape of the trunk is great! At first glance. It looks like a gold painted textured tin exterior with black hardware. Upon closer examination, it looks like the trunk is wood covered with textured tin. A magnet will attach to all the tin and all the hardware. The arch accents and straight accents on the sides appear to be wood(the magnet does not stick but slides to the metal areas) The bottom has seen better days. The tin shows wear at the corner and at the bottom edges of the sides. I tried to show this in the pictures. The bottom has been covered with felt. There is no tin used on the bottom-it appears to be antique wood covered by felt. The interior has been lined with a ... morecream colored polyester lining fabric. The lining was applied with upholstery tacks and a glue gun. Along the two short side there is a ridge of wood inside the trunk which probably held a tray at one time. In one corner. I was able to pull back the fabric and take a photograph of what looks like the original lining paper. All the nails in the top and sides look like they are original except 3 philips head screws that are used in one of the back hinges. I was trying to figure out why there were air holes on the sides when I realized that the handles are missing. The beauty of the shape is the main attraction. Measures 28" wide x 17" deep x 18" tall that peaks to 20" Very pretty piece. Looks like with a little work the original splendor of this piece would be a delight to own. These trunks are also described as Dome Topped or Hump Back trunks. No returns on this item. Local Pick up is prefered in Raleigh. NC. Shipping will be calculated by actual weight. This is a stunning Victorian style dome top steamer trunk that does need some work.to restore it to its elegan state from probably late 1800's. It is really a find! There is one of the small cadster type rollers on the bottom that is missing see photos.The lock needs attention as well as the two closures. Someone has placed a drawer inside where the original insert was and is now gone. The handles are missing also. Antique Dome Top Child ~ Doll ~ Toy Trunk, Wood Storage Chest, 26x15x14
We believe this dome top trunk to be an antique. And based on it's smaller size possibly a child's trunk or toy trunk. There is no longer a label on the trunk but the inside lid has a print of a bird(see photo) feeding her chicks. The trunk is done with an interesting combination of dark brown and ivory. It looks like the ivory was painted on but probably a good while ago since there is quite a bit of rust and discoloration coming through the paint. The dark brown areas look like tin or some thin metal that has been embossed with the scrolled pattern. The interior still has quite a bit of paper inside but the paper lining is not in good condition. There is a loose bracket on one side that should probably be fixed if the trunk is going to be opened regularly. There are two latches on the front that are still intact. The lock in the ... morecenter is missing the bottom section(the piece mounted on the bottom of the trunk) The trunk could be used"as is" for a primitive decorative piece. I have had this trunk for about 15 years and it has provided great storage and looks beautiful in my living room. The iron and internal structure are in great condition and definitely original. This is a rare piece. I was not the purchaser. However, and therefore I do not have any information about its age and origin. It is definitely old and original though. I am moving house and do not have room for it. It's heavy, probably more than 200 lbs and very solidly built. Anyone who can provide further information please help. Antique Grain Painted Dome Top Doll Trunk with Fabric Lined Interior
Very nice dome top doll trunk with grain painting. Original iron banding, original latch and a nice fabric interior. No key. 15 3/4" long x 9 1/4" deep x 10 1/4" high. The condition is very good with some paint nicks and a few little stains and a minor crack on the top. The lift lid on the interior compartment is partially torn but not completely detached. I see that a couple of my photos make the trunk appear slightly lopsided. This is because the slate walkway is a bit uneven, the trunk is not at all lopsided. This is simply a HUGE steamer trunk. One of the largest domed trunks I have come across. It is 40" wide. 32" high and 22" deep. It is a very sturdy and solid trunk. The center lock was cut off of it, however the side latches work properly. It is incredibly ornate and has immense potential. This antique dome top trunk is in marvelous condition for its age. There is no major damage to this trunk. Just normal wear and tear that you would expect in an item this old. This beauty has tons of character! The beautifully curved dome top, with 4 strips of curved 2-inch wood…is a sight to behold. Just on the top of this trunk are 14 ornately etched plates of metal hardware. All the tin on the chest is embosed with a raised floral pattern. It is truly beautiful. The lock comes without a key and I am not sure if it works. Both latches operate properly. Both leather side handles are missing. They can easily be replaced but I want to leave the trunk 100% original. The trunk is made from tin, metal, and wood. There is a total of seventeen 2” wood strips of varying lengths found on all sides of the trunk. The wood strips look like oak to me…they’re ... morein excellent condition. The trunk measures about 34" long across the bottom x 19” wide at the ends x 26” tall to the center of the dome, which is the highest point. The insert inside the trunk is fully functional and just needs a new coat of lacquer. The trunk was found with many others in the basement of an old building in lower Manhattan. The building manager said they were stored there years ago from unclaimed steamer trunks owned by immigrants who came over from Europe to Ellis Island. Please ask any questions. Antique Camelback Steamer Trunk Dome Top Tin Storage Toys Treasure Chest
This is a gorgeous antique camelback steamer trunk. It measures 33.5" x 19" And the dome reaches 20 3/4 inches tall. It has curved wood pieces with tin fittings, and it has wheels underneath. One of the side latches works perfectly, and the one on the left will fit closed but will not stay closed. I have not tried to close the main latch in the middle because I do not have a key. Note the older style slightly rectangular nailheads. Inside you can see some bare wood in places. But much of it is still covered by the original paper. You can also see two stickers that say Uncle Sam US Army standard 10 1/2. I have no idea what that refers to or their date. Just to the right of the right sticker, you can barely see the remains of the original sticker that was in the trunk. There is only a very, very slightly musty odor.
