THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. EXAMPLE OF STAGECOACH/JENNY LIND With Measurements: 29"w x 13.5"h x 16 1/4"d Stagecoach Trunks Including The Jenny Lind's 1840-1875 This era of trunks saw the replacement of the leather trim with metal banding and the hide coverings replaced by things such as oil cloth. A tanned and often highly tooled or inked leather. And toward the later part of the era, paper on occasion. During this time, the size of the buttons. Often brass covered, became larger although not all trunks had them. Generally, trunks of this type were still on the smaller size to carry a few belongings for an individual person as space was limited during travel. The Jenny Lind trunk was born in this time in the early 1850's. It has a distinctive shape like no other trunk being ... moresimilar to an old keyhole or bread loaf shape(there are two variations) when viewed from the side. The style became popular in America when the famous singer Jenny Lind toured the country under contract by P.T. Barnum. Jenny Lind brought her trunk over from Europe(do not know who made the first one) and everyone here wanted one. It is a very attractive trunk with metal banding that is on occasion brass wrapped and the banding is held in place by large brass buttons. The Jenny Lind's are really a unique style of their own but I have listed then under the stagecoach trunks as that is really what they were and their general size being consistent with other trunks of this era. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age. Some wear and cracks to wood. Forged handles. Rivets and initials"M.O. on top. Brown wood with black bands. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. Antique Camel Back Trunk, Wood Metal Leather, Late 1800s? Patent Mar 16
Let me begin by saying I do not know a lot about this trunk and I am no expert. I cannot find another one exactly like it online. From information I have gathered I believe it is a camel back trunk from the 1870s or 1880s. Several pieces of the hardware on the trunk have"Patent mar 16" on them. Dimensions: Length 32" 18" wide, 21" tall, 14" deep The trunk is made of metal and wood. The leather handle/strap on the left side of the trunk has been broken off and is MIA. The latch on the front is intact. But it won't latch and the key is also MIA, presumably with the leather handle. Maybe they are lying on a beach somewhere together. Antique trunk with ornate design, wood & metal, p/u only near B'ham, WA
This is a beautiful trunk that is 38" wide. A depth of 21" and a height at the peak of 26" The metalwork is quite beautiful contrasted with the wood. Inside is a tray that lifts out or tips up. The inside is quite simple. Wonderful storage piece. The handles on the sides are missing, as is the claps in the front. The hinges for the lid are in very good working condition which means this is a very functional storage unit. I am not at all sure what the age is. I bought it as part of an entire household. The most recent owner did not smoke. And I know he owned it about the past 3-4 years, having purchased it locally. Local pick up only. I live in Nooksack. WA(Whatcom County) near Bellingham, but closer to the Canadian border in the northwest part of the state.

I am unsure of the age. Maker and origin of this trunk. To the best of my knowledge and research, this is from the late 1800's. I am not an anique collector or dealer. Therefore I am relying on your knowledge and expertise based on the photos. It is very heavy at approx. 70lbs. The leather handles on each side are missing. deteriorated over many years. VINTAGE STEAMER TRUNK You are bidding on a vintage steamer trunk. This nice trunk is metal with wood trim. It had leather straps and handles. But they have broken off, with only remnants remaining. The chest is rusty on the surface. But seems to be solid. It is lined on the inside with paper. The lock on the outside has the word Yale on it. The trunk measures 20" tall and 19" x 36" length and width. It is 16" deep with the lid open. It is in good vintage condition. With surface rust and the leather straps broken off. Trunk, 32"x19"x16", Wood with Metal Trim, Golden Studs and Brass Hardware
This beautiful trunk is made from thick plywood and is very heavy. About 40 pounds. It has numerous brass tacks on the surface and along the metal strips, and hinges which have been painted gold. The interior has also been painted- beige. There is an insert(not the original) available to the buyer if he/she wants it(if not, I'll lower the cost of shipping a tad) See the photos- it is obvious that it is too small for this large trunk. The lid opens and closes easily and remains open, in spite of evidence on the right side that a hinge may be missing. The brass clamps in the front work fine to keep it securely closed. There is no lock. The leather straps on the sides are in good condition, useful, and give authenticity to its antique status. Quite a unique trunk with a few quirks.

Antique Trunk Wood Covered In Leather 1800's Metal Bands Beautiful Piece
Beautiful antique trunk. I had someone online look at pictures and he estimated it was from about 1890. The research I have done myself leads me to believe it was made between 1870-1890. It is made of wood and covered in leather. I believe that it's pine but I could be wrong. There are metal bands across the top and around the edges. Please see pictures this truck is old and has plenty of bumps and bruises. The leather handle straps are missing and there are several patches of leather missing on the top and front. There is also a crack in the lid. It definitely needs some TLC but is still beautiful and has tons of rustic charm. There is paper lining the inside that is torn and has some spots. Unique Trunk with metal over wood and a bar scene on the lid of trunk. The metal has natural aged patina. The wood looks like an old plywood and the metal covers the lid. Sides and front. Measures 25" x 17" x 16" tall.

No tray. No idea what era. No key. Leather handles beat up but not ripped. Dirty and smelly. Haha. Decent piece though. Banged up and sold as is. Nicks and scratches are plentiful. Please see pics.
