THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. Antique primitive tool chest with metal stand- folk art paint
This is a nice old tool chest with metal stand. It looks like it was painted with blue/ grey milk paint but don't think it would have been old enough for that. This has a holder in the top lid for a hand saw. There are two small drawers but they are hard to show in the photo. Somebody broke into this chest at some time because they lost the key. The original lockstep is in the drawer and could be reinstalled if you get a key that fits. Otherwise you can order a new lock set from one of the reproduction wood working supply companies. This chest measures 35 1/2" long by 16 1/2" wide by 15" tall. When you set it on the metal stand it measures 27" tall. This is a nice example of a primitive chest and displays nicely inside. Antique French Trunk Storage Chest Raised Metal European
At auction is a very fine old French chest. It has great age. Patina on the metal and wood. It looks to be brass raised and dimpled metal, with different scenes on 4 panels. Inside of the box is 24" long by 18" deep by 13.5" wide Top lid size is 27.5" long by 15 3/4" wide. It has a tag on the under side of the lid that says made in France. There was another tag beside it but part of it is missing. The writing and the ink reenforce its age. I am not positive when it was made. But you can see from the pictures its very old. I havent been able to find anything like it to compare it to. My guess is mid 1800th century to the early 1900s. It has a few small nails missing on the bottom left back corner. Where it had been hit probably while moving it. Metal is all there just needs a few nails. The wood boards in the inside look like the were hand sawed, and have file, rasp marks. You can see it the picture that shows the lid opened. Not positive what the wood is but it looks to be walnut. Inside is very clean and nice with no odors, rips or tears, I peeked in before I closed the lid. Would be a nice trunk for someone that is familiar with locks and could open it. ANTIQUE METAL EMBOSSED STEAMER TRAVEL OR CHILD TOY TRUNK, PIRATE TREASURE CHEST
Antique Trunk. Measures 16" wide. 10" deep, 11" high. Wood trunk with metal embossed skin. Barrel top with wood slats. Metal corner protectors. This trunk was probably either a steamer travel trunk. Or a childs toy trunk, I do not know for sure it's purpose. The latches are missing the top half, and the lock is missing the latch, so the trunk can't be latched. The hinges are in great shape and the trunk opens and closes easily. The leather handle straps are gone. The interior appears to be the original except it looks like the inside top was replaced with a pirate chest themed paper. All in all it's a beautiful antique trunk. No tray. No idea what era. No key. Leather handles beat up but not ripped. Dirty and smelly. Haha. Decent piece though. Banged up and sold as is. Nicks and scratches are plentiful. Please see pics.
